Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi will have some big decisions to make as he prepares to steer Spurs back in the right direction, and one of his former coaches has revealed a key reason as to why one player in particular could be dropped.
De Zerbi was appointed as Tottenham's new manager last month, and he's now preparing to avoid relegation with the north London club.
His first game in charge will be against Sunderland, and Spurs have seven games remaining in the Premier League to climb away from the bottom three.
De Zerbi signed a five-year deal with Tottenham, showing his commitment to the club regardless of the potential relegation, and he'll undoubtedly be ready to make some crucial decisions when it comes to some of the current squad.
Former Coach Reveals All on De Zerbi
Goalkeeping coach Jack Stern, who previously worked under De Zerbi during their time at Brighton, has revealed all on what the new Tottenham boss expects from his goalkeepers.
"He wants all of the things that any coach wants from a goalkeeper in terms of keeping the ball out of the net and doing all those normal goalkeeper things. On top of that, he wants the goalkeeper to be so involved in the build-up. The biggest thing is understanding tactically how the team play, and the goalkeeper is very responsible for that. So there is a lot of focus on that in training."
Guglielmo Vicario has struggled with playing out from the back in particular, so the comments from Stern might show that the Tottenham goalkeeper might not have a future at Spurs under De Zerbi.
Vicario could be finished at Tottenham if he's going to be required to be heavily involved in the build-up, while he's also struggled with goalkeeping in general this season.
The Italian international is currently a key player, playing more Premier League games than any other Spurs man this season, but that might not be the case under De Zerbi.
Tottenham Could Sign Former De Zerbi Man
According to reports, Tottenham are considering a move to sign Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen in the summer transfer window.
It's claimed that Spurs could make a move if they avoid relegation from the Premier League this season, with De Zerbi giving the green light for them to make a move.
De Zerbi is a big fan of the goalkeeper from his time with Brighton, and he fits the profile of player he wants between the sticks.
A departure for Vicario is looking likely for the summer transfer window, and that's looking increasingly evident after the appointment of De Zerbi last month.
