Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a boost in their pursuit of James Trafford as Manchester City’s plans for the goalkeeper come to light.

We believe that the goalkeeping position at Tottenham Hotspur could be set for a big change both now and next season.

Roberto De Zerbi, as we know, is not scared to rotate his goalkeepers and also places big emphasis on his shot-stoppers being able to play out from the back.

This could well bring an end to Guglielmo Vicario’s time at Tottenham, given the Italian’s struggle to join in build-up play under both Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor.

However, there is still the opportunity for the Spurs number one to fight for his spot at Tottenham, but that in itself seems rather unlikely, with Inter Milan keen on signing Vicario this summer, and the former Empoli man having given a yes to a contract offer from the Nerazzurri.

Spurs’ focus has naturally turned to securing a new shot-stopper, with reports linking them to a few, including Manchester City’s number two James Trafford.

The former Championship goalkeeper has impressed despite being second to Donnarumma, and those performances have caught the eye of Tottenham as well as other Premier League sides.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Spurs have now been handed a big boost in their pursuit of Trafford, with a report from Manchester Evening News stating that City are expected to sell their number two this summer.

A lack of minutes for most of this season has left Trafford frustrated, as he now looks set to miss out on England’s World Cup squad.

But Tottenham are not the only side looking to pounce on Trafford’s frustrations, with other clubs in the English top flight keen.

Newcastle United, who were in the race to sign Trafford from Burnley last summer, remain interested and are pushing for his signature.

Aston Villa have also been linked with Trafford in recent months, with Unai Emery sounding out interest in the City number two.

However, reports from TeamTalk will serve as a boost for Tottenham, with it claimed that Trafford is ready to make a switch to Spurs even if they are relegated to the Championship.

Of course, much of that will depend on the offer he receives, but if he is ready to take such a step, Tottenham will be looking to push for him.
