Our exceptional performance and 2-0 win at Manchester City on Saturday made it two wins out of two at the start of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

Goals from Brennan Johnson and Palhinha secured the points a complete team display deserved at the Etihad as Thomas Frank made it two out of two, with two clean sheets, in the Premier League.

How many times have we won our first two games of a Premier League season?

The answer is eight.

Inspired by Jurgen Klinsmann, we first did it in 1994/95, when the German striker scored in our opener at Sheffield Wednesday and followed it up with a flying volley against Everton - both memorably marked with his 'dive' celebration. We last did it at the start of the 2021/22 season - when we won our first three matches.

We had our best start to a Premier League season in 2023/24, but didn't win the opener - that was a draw at Brentford. We then won eight and drew two of our first 10 games. We were also unbeaten for the first 12 matches of 2016/17, but didn't win the first two games of what was the final season at the Lane - we won six and drew six of those 12. Meanwhile, we've only gone on to win our first four matches of a Premier League season on one occasion in 2009/10, and went on to finish fourth.

Of course, going back beyond the Premier League era, our best-ever start to a season remains an English football record - a season carved into the Club's history - the 1960/61 double-winning season when Bill Nicholson's wonderful team opened with 11 straight wins on the way to First Division title and FA Cup glory.
