It’s official: despite winning the Europa League final against Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur have come to the decision to sack Ange Postecoglou – and the reaction of the players and how much his dismissal cost have been revealed.

It was just over two weeks ago when thousands of Spurs supporters turned up in their droves as a means of thanking Postecoglou and the players for breaking their 17-year major trophy curse. And, amid the jubilation, the former manager said:

“I'll tell you something! I'll leave you with this: all the best television series, season three is better than season two!”

A strong remark from the 59-year-old, ear-splitting loud cheers of approval bellowed from the many Spurs supporters in attendance – but that will not be the case for the former Celtic boss, who suffered 22 Premier League defeats in the 2024/25 campaign.

How Spurs Player Reacted to Postecoglou’s Sacking

Cost of the 59-year-old's dismissal also revealed in report

Brentford custodian Thomas Frank, 51, is the favourite to replace him after the Greek-Australian’s hodgepodge two years, equating to 101 games, of service – but how are his former players reacting to the news that Postecoglou will no longer be at the helm?

According to The Telegraph, Daniel Levy – who held a meeting into the night after their 4-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion – could face a revolt from the players after brutally parting ways with Postecoglou, who began his career at South Melbourne.

As a result of Levy’s unpopular decision, which reports suggested was always going to be the case irrespective of the outcome in Bilbao, the report has insisted that some Spurs players are thinking of leaving the club. A source told The Telegraph:

“The players are so angry about what has happened and how it has been handled. The next manager is going to inherit a difficult situation.”

Whether it’s Frank or another potential suitor, the source believes that Postecoglou’s successor will face a daunting task: repairing the dressing room after losing someone who, despite his subtle shortcomings, was a brilliant character on and off the pitch.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Tottenham Hotspur’s 22 losses in the 2024/25 Premier League season are the most by a team who avoided relegation in a 38-game campaign.

Elsewhere, The Mirror have insisted that Postecoglou’s sacking would have cost the north Londoners a total of £4 million in compensation – it’s important to remember: that’s alongside his £2m-worth bonus by virtue of reigning supreme in Europe.

All in all, Levy and Co have been forced to cough up in the region of £6 million to wave goodbye to just their third manager – alongside the legendary duo of Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw – to deliver them a European trophy.
