Hull City are set to join the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur youngster Mikey Moore this summer.
It has been exclusively revealed by FLW that the Tigers are set to compete for the forward’s temporary signature amid competition from Birmingham City and West Brom.
It was reported earlier this month by Football Insider that the Championship duo have an interest in the 17-year-old.
Moore featured 10 times in the Premier League last season, as well as making five appearances in the Europa League, but may seek a loan for more regular game time in the upcoming campaign.
Mikey Moore to Hull verdict
When asked about the club’s interest in Moore, FLW’s Hull fan pundit Cameron Gibson claimed it would be good business if they could get a deal done.
He’s highlighted the Tigers’ recent success at developing young talent, suggesting the MKM Stadium could be a good next step for the player to take in his career.
“If we were able to pull it off, I think that would be a good bit of business,” Gibson told Football League World.
“If there’s a few other Championship clubs in for him, then I think it will be quite hard for Hull City to maybe win the deal.
“But if we were able to pull it off, then I do think that’s a positive sign because we have really been a good place for players to develop in the past, whether it has been loans or our own academy.
“Players like Keane Lewis-Potter, Jacob Greaves, Jarrod Bowen and then we’ve had loan players along the way like Harry Wilson, [Fabio] Carvalho, Liam Delap, these players have gone on all to have big successes and good careers.
“So if players are going to come here from the Premier League, we are normally a good destination for them to develop.
“We have had a few failures along the way, like [Malcolm] Ebiowei from Crystal Palace, Fin Burns didn’t get too many minutes last season and there’s a few other more.
“But you’re not going to be successful with every loan.”
Mikey Moore transfer claim
Gibson believes winning the race to Moore’s signature would be a good sign for the club, but warned that they should get the deal sorted quickly or else move on to other targets.
“I think he’s got a high ceiling, and I do think he’s going to be a good player, whether that’s going to be in the Championship or potentially in the Premier League and European football,” he continued.
“At 17, and you don’t want to put pressure on him, he’s just wanting to play his football and get the ability to show what he’s got.
“But if Hull City were able to beat West Brom and Birmingham, I think that would be a really good sign for the fans and that would show that we are still a decent club.
“But if we get strung along, and it’s not going to until deadline day that he decides, then maybe it’s not the one we should go for.
“It’s really up to the club to get this done quick, and ready for the start of pre-season would be ideal.
“And I’m sure that’s what he’s looking for if he wants to have the best possible season for his development.
“If Mikey Moore was to come to Hull City, I think it would be quite interesting.”
Moore signing would be great business for Hull
Sergej Jakirovic will be looking to bolster his squad this summer, and it’s clear some added firepower is needed after the team’s relegation fight last year.
Moore is still only 17 and has a decent amount of experience for someone of that age, which shows the high esteem in which he’s held at Spurs.
A loan to receive regular minutes would make sense for his development, and Hull’s track record with young talent could sway the London outfit to push for a move to the club instead of West Brom or Birmingham.
If they could get this deal done, then it has the potential to be a very exciting signing.
