Jamie O’Hara was in disbelief after Tottenham Hotspur drew Newcastle United last night.
Both clubs coasted to comfortable victories over League One opposition, booking spots in the Carabao Cup fourth round. The Magpies brushed aside Bradford City 4-1 while Spurs coasted to a 3-0 win over Doncaster Rovers.
Newcastle are the Carabao Cup holders and Eddie Howe has insisted he is taking the competition seriously. While not the most favourable draw, with it being at home, fans were content when Spurs were confirmed as opponents.
Jamie O’Hara not happy
However, former Tottenham midfielder and radio host O’Hara could not believe his eyes. Ex-Manchester City player Michael Brown was the target of his fury after pulling Spurs out the hat.
“Michael Brown!” O’Hara cried to talkSPORT. “Honestly, Michael Brown, what are you doing? We’ve got the draw going on and I’m fuming with Michael Brown right now. He’s pulled Tottenham out the hat to Newcastle away.
“Honestly, it’s just so annoying. That is probably one of the hardest fixtures in the whole draw. We’re playing Newcastle. That is a tough game. I don’t think we go there and win. We’re playing the holders. I’m disappointed with Michael Brown.”
Eddie Howe happy with Newcastle United win
“We wanted to win today,” Eddie Howe told reporters last night. “We wanted to score, try and entertain everybody that came (to the game). I thought we did that. I think it was always going to be a difficult game.
“No one makes anything easy for you, Bradford are top of their league and full of confidence. So we needed an element of patience in our performance. But once we got into our groove, we were very good today.
“Your attitude fundamentally is the most important thing to any game. And if your attitude's off, these games can be very, very difficult and very costly. We didn't want that to happen to us (vs Bradford). And that's why I'm delighted with the lads' professionalism. Now we can look forward to Arsenal.”
Joelinton on Newcastle United performance
Joelinton bagged a brace in the 4-1 rout and is hoping to use those goals as a springboard for the fledgling season. He said post-match: "I enjoyed myself - not only because I scored two goals, but the performance in general was very good. It gives us the confidence to push on.
"It has been a difficult start to the season for me. I hope I can keep going, be injury-free and play my best football. Like the Premier League and Champions League, (the EFL Cup) is very important for us. We want to attack every competition and win every game.
"We now focus on the Premier League again. I am very excited (for Arsenal at the weekend). We had great games against them last season."
