Tottenham have spent big this summer and there is a chance for those in the squad to experience something amazing reckons a former player

It will be "insane" for Tottenham's players to be part of the first wave that got the club back to where it belongs, reckons former Spurs goalkeeper Kasey Keller.

The north London outfit have smashed their transfer record twice this summer, first for the £85million deal that brought Mateus Fernandes from West Ham and then to sign their first £100million footballer in Sandro Tonali from Newcastle. That came after Spurs had splashed out £52million on Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke and tied up three free transfers in the experienced Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Roberto De Zerbi is looking to build a team to compete and when Fernandes spoke about the project presented to him by the Italian amid competition for his signature, with Manchester United in particular interested in signing him, he said there are plans to compete at the very top with their new-look squad in a season without European football.

"I'm very happy, I'm very excited for this next step. Of course, it's a massive club. I already know the city and the country. I spoke with the manager. I think he was the main key for me to join Tottenham and the project. We will fight for the Premier League, we will fight for first place," said the midfielder, who will wear the shirt number 18 for the club.

Former USA international Keller played 99 times for Spurs and believes it will be something special for this first wave of players if the club can go on to become a force once again.

"Everybody keeps waiting for Tottenham to become the Tottenham we know they can be and if you can go to Spurs and be a part of that, it will be insane. I just hope they get the right combinations, they get the right mindset," the 56-year-old former goalkeeper said in an exclusive interview with Ozoon about the FIFA World Cup.

"Just to get the club where it should be. It is a massive, massive club that has significantly underachieved, and is just begging to get back to going in the right direction. If you can be a part of that, it will be insane to be part of that first wave to get Tottenham back to where they belong."
