In the starting XI once again for game two against Canada in this international, and having found themselves behind early on in the contest, Oli won possession back just inside her own half and after spotting the goalkeeper off her line, she sent a wonderful, lobbed effort from the centre circle, over the back-peddling Kailen Sheridan and into the back of the net.

That stunning strike kick started the Danes’ performance from there and our number 11 was influential in the next two goals, first setting up Pernille Harder just four minutes later after her opener for the experienced forward to put her nation ahead in the match.

Then, five minutes later, Oli had her second of the game as Harder turned provider this time, sliding the ball into the feet of the midfielder inside the box and she calmly converted to give Denmark a two-goal advantage heading into the break.

The home side continued to fight back, pulling it back to 3-2 four minutes after the restart, but Janni Thomsen reinstated their two-goal lead and that proved to be enough for Denmark despite Olivia Smith halving the deficit with 20 minutes left to play.

Oli’s brace for her nation takes her goal tally to six in nine domestic and international games so far this campaign, scoring four times for us in all competitions to date.

Elsewhere, Lenna Gunning-Williams was a second half substitute for England Under-23s as they suffered a 2-0 defeat in the WU23 European Competition on Monday evening.

The young forward was introduced on 65 minutes for her first appearance of the season and came close to a goal for the Young Lionesses in stoppage time, sending a low drive just inches wide of the post.

Sticking in the WU23 European Competition, Hanna Wijk and Matilda Nilden were both in action for Sweden Under-23s as they began their tournament with a goalless draw with Germany.

Hanna started and completed the full match, while Matilda was introduced just after the hour mark as both sides struggled to find the breakthrough in Germany.
