Tottenham Hotspur produced a dominant display against Copenhagen, and James Maddison thinks one player really stood out.
Thomas Frank’s team ran riot in North London as they thumped Copenhagen 4-0 in the Champions League.
Micky van de Ven scored one of the best goals of the season, whilst Wilson Odobert, Joao Palhinha and Brennan Johnson also found the back of the net.
After the game, James Maddison felt the need to laud one of Spurs’ key performers from the match, following his impressive display.
James Maddison’s praise for Xavi Simons after Champions League win
Maddison has taken to social media to praise Xavi Simons following Tottenham Hotspur’s 4-0 win in the Champions League.
Simons impressed against Copenhagen, winning the Man of the Match award and producing his best display in a Tottenham shirt to date.
In the first half, the Dutch international created three big chances, the most by a Spurs player in the competition since the 2016/17 season.
Following the match, Maddison took to social media to write in the 22-year-old’s Instagram comments: “Toppppp today son”.
Simons has been struggling at Tottenham up until now, but bounced back from his poor display against Chelsea over the weekend.
The youngster will now be hoping that his display was the catalyst to help springboard his career in North London following a rocky start.
But it’s no wonder Simons looked better, as Spurs played with much greater attacking intent against the Danish opposition.
Thomas Frank on Xavi Simons winning Man of the Match
Frank believes that Simons is getting ‘better and better’ at Tottenham following his Man of the Match display versus Copenhagen.
Speaking to the club’s media, Frank said: “I think Xavi also made a step forward, very happy. I think he found some good pockets when we got the ball into him. I think that was very positive.
“Happy he got the assist. I think he could have easily got one or two more on the day, so he is getting better and better.”
Next up for the Lilywhites is Manchester United, and Simons will be hopeful of continuing his form into the game against Ruben Amorim’s team.
