Harry Kane is on top of the world right now. The Bayern Munich striker became the first Englishman since 2001 to win the Ballon d'Or on Monday night, beating Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal to the highest individual honour in the sport.
The England captain, who became the Three Lions' highest capped player, to add to his record of being the all-time top scorer for his nation, during the last international break, has taken his game to another level since arriving in Germany.
Kane became a legend at Tottenham Hotspur when breaking Jimmy Greaves' all-time scoring record for the north Londoners in 2022/23, but there was always something missing and that was the trophies that his incredible career deserved.
Since moving to Bayern, despite, quite incredibly, winning nothing in his first season in Munich, Kane has gone on to win the Bundesliga title twice, the German Super Cup twice and the DFB Pokal once.
And now he has the biggest individual award in football, scooping the Ballon d'Or and effectively being named the best player in the world for the past season.
Kane made the move from Spurs to Bayern in the summer of 2023, in a deal that was worth up to £100million. The initial fee Tottenham received for Kane was £86million, with another £14million to come in the form of add-ons.
Key Events Timeline
August 2011 — Kane made his Tottenham debut in a Europa League qualifier against Hearts.
April 2014 — He scored his first Premier League goal in a 5-1 win over Sunderland.
May 2017 — Kane claimed a second successive Golden Boot with 29 league goals.
August 2021 — Kane missed pre-season training amid Manchester City interest, then stayed at Spurs.
February 2023 — He passed Jimmy Greaves to become Tottenham's all-time leading scorer.
However, it has been revealed that winning the Ballon d'Or was not one of the add-ons that Spurs inserted into the deal, meaning a fee is not due to the north London club in the wake of Kane's incredible achievement.
Tottenham will no doubt have earned money from one or both of the Bundesliga title wins Kane has already contributed to, while it is likely they will be due a fee if the German side win the Champions League while he is there too.
Kane has already notched more than 100 goals in a Bayern shirt in three seasons with the club. He netted an astonishing 73 goals for club and country in the 2025/26 season, leading to that Ballon d'Or triumph.
Speaking after claiming the award, Kane said: "I want to say thank you to Tottenham Hotspur," he said. "I wouldn't be where I am today without Tottenham, for sure. I was there from 11 years old. All the guidance, the coaches, you allowed me to live my dream. So, for sure, without all those moments together, all the ups and down along the way of that journey has led me to this moment here today. So I just want to say thank you to Tottenham Hotspur."
