Tottenham Hotspur are in an interesting position on transfer deadline day.

Spurs need new players, but, as things stand, nothing is imminent in north London.

Thomas Frank’s side have been poor as of late, and, as we all know, an easy way to change your fortunes is to sign some new talent.

However, as always, that’s much easier said than done.

What business do Tottenham need to complete on Transfer Deadline Day?

Let us know in the comments below…👇

Speaking on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher has been discussing the idea of Spurs making new signings on deadline day, and he noted that there is an issue that could be holding Spurs back on this front.

Jamie Carragher identifies Tottenham problem on deadline day

Carragher spoke about the issue Spurs are facing on transfer deadline day.

The pundit noted that it is difficult to sign anyone right now as they have players who are set to return from injury.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Carragher, quite rightly, noted that there may not be much point in signing new players, as, in a few weeks’ or months’ time, Tottenham will have stars returning from injury who will be like new signings in any case.

“I also see it from a manager’s point of view and a manager’s point of view that what do you do with these players (new signings) when the players are injured come back, especially when they’re some of your best players?” Carragher asked.

“So you think of Kulusevski, Kulusevski is out now, James Madison as well. When these players are back fit, they’re going to expect to play. So it’s a really difficult one with Tottenham. They brought, you know, Gallagher is in, Johnson’s gone out as well. So they’ve done some decent business, if you like, but it’s not easy. You’ve got to be mindful about when these players are coming back as well, as I said, they are some of Tottenham’s best players.”

Tottenham’s injury list analysed

Carragher is right in what he is saying.

Tottenham do need more players to stop their current slump, but football isn’t a game that is just about week-to-week results.

Spurs have a number of injured players who will be back fit and firing at some point, so they can’t really afford to waste money on new signings now who will potentially be obsolete in a few months’ time.

Tottenham are in a very difficult position with their lengthy injury list, and it’s hard not to sympathise with Thomas Frank in this current position.
