Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has had his future thrusted into uncertainty after a season of dismal performances, but ex-Spurs player Jamie O'Hara believes he will retain his job as long as his side wins the Europa League.
The Lilywhites emerged as 1–0 victors in their clash with Frankfurt on Thursday, meaning they have progressed into the Europa League semi-finals, and they stand just two matches away from lifting the trophy and ending their long-running silverware drought.
Meanwhile, Tottenham's torrid showings in the Premier League have seen them languishing in 15th with just six games to go and an 11-point gap to cover if they are to make at least the top half.
GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: If Tottenham were to end their season in their current league position, it would match their worst ever finish in the Premier League, last recorded in the 1993/1994 campaign.
O'Hara: Postecoglou 'Keeps his Job' with Silverware
The 59-year-old has been linked with a departure
Speaking to talkSPORT, O'Hara revealed his stance on Postecoglou's future amid rumours of a soon-expected dismissal. He said:
"If he wins it [the Europa League], he keeps his job.
"It'll be one of the biggest things Spurs have ever done."
O'Hara hasn't been the Spurs manager's biggest advocate in the past. After crashing out of the FA Cup at the hands of Aston Villa, he took to X (formerly Twitter) to say it was "time to go" for Postecoglou.
Tottenham have also reportedly been sounding out the market for potential replacements, in the event that they do part ways with Postecoglou. However, Fabrizio Romano has revealed in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter that the club's top brass will avoid making a conclusive decision on the Greek-Australian custodian for as long as he remains in contention for the Europa League.
The North Londoners' last continental honour came in the form of the UEFA Cup - now known as the Europa League - in 1984. Moreover, winning the competition would grant Spurs automatic qualification for next season's Champions League, which previously seemed nothing more than a pipe dream, given how Postecoglou's men had long fallen from the race for the top five in the Premier League.
Tottenham still have to face Norwegian outfit Bodo/Glimt in the semi-finals, in addition to either Athletic Bilbao or Manchester United in the final, before they can celebrate Europa League glory.
