‘That can’t be right’ – Jason Cundy dumbfounded by what he’s told about Tottenham live on air
Jason Cundy couldn’t believe his ears as a Tottenham stat emerged after their Champions League victory.
Tottenham’s 4-0 win over Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday subdued some of the concerns that had been emerging in North London.
Prior to the win, Spurs had won just one of their last five in all competitions, with pressure slowly starting to build on Thomas Frank already.
Brennan Johnson’s goal and red card for Tottenham took the headlines, but it was something surrounding Micky van de Ven that Cundy simply refused to believe.
Micky van de Ven reveal stuns talkSPORT pundit
Spurs haven’t had too many standout performers this season, but Van de Ven has been outstanding for Tottenham.
MORE SPURS STORIES
The Dutch international was flawless defensively, and contributed with a goal of the season contender, after dribbling the full length of the pitch after an interception.
He’s developed quite the habit for it, with five goals already so far this season, the most in his career.
As a result, it was revealed live on talkSPORT that he is now Tottenham‘s top scorer for the campaign, and Cundy was shellshocked at the reveal.
“Hold on a second, that can’t be right,” said Cundy.
“It can’t be right, there’s no way Thomas Frank is right there. It was a brilliant goal, but I can’t have [Tottenham’s] centre half as their top goalscorer.”
Tottenham have goals spread around their side
Van de Ven really is Spurs’ top scorer, with the likes of Richarlison and Johnson not too far behind him.
While some will look at that as a concern, others will look at it as a positive in the sense that Spurs have several players who can come up with big moments.
In years gone by, Tottenham have often had one player to rely on, and if they were shut out from the game, the Lilywhites were almost helpless at getting a result.
Arsenal scoring goals from set pieces doesn’t seem to be an issue, but when a Tottenham player is popping up with special moments, it’s seen as a negative.
Van de Ven for the golden boot?
