Jermain Defoe has now shared his thoughts on whether Harry Kane might make a sensational return to Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur currently have Dominic Solanke, Richarlison, Randal Kolo Muani and Mathys Tel as number nine options under Thomas Frank.

Each of these players possesses unique abilities that the Dane can certainly utilise throughout the course of the campaign, giving Spurs a varied set of attacking tools to call upon.

However, with Harry Kane potentially available next summer for less than £60 million (€70 million) and Tottenham still holding a first-refusal clause on Kane, the England captain continues to be linked with a Premier League comeback.

Jermain Defoe speaks on Harry Kane’s potential Tottenham return

Alan Shearer’s Premier League record remains within touching distance for Kane, who needs 47 more goals to equal the Newcastle United legend and 48 to surpass him outright.

A return to the Premier League would help Kane reach that feat, and now, Jermain Defoe has weighed in on the possibility of his former teammate returning to England.

Speaking to HaytersTV, Defoe admitted that while the move would make sense, everything ultimately depends on Kane’s personal ambitions.

“I do not know, to be honest. It depends on what he wants to do; he is an iconic figure at the club,” Defoe told HaytersTV.

“The only thing driving him at the moment is probably the trophies, let us hope he can get a few more and if he has done that, then he can come back to Tottenham and win a couple. If it happens, it would make sense, but you just do not know what he is thinking.”

Gary Neville and Alan Pardew share their views on Kane

Gary Neville has previously said that he believes Harry Kane will return to the Premier League, though he remains unconvinced that it would be to rejoin Tottenham, suggesting instead that Chelsea might prove a better fit.

Alan Pardew has also voiced his belief that Kane will find his way back to English football eventually, while Thomas Frank has left the door open for Kane to return to Tottenham, though he admitted that such a move would not happen anytime soon.
