Joe Cole Chelsea transfer targets

The idea of Tottenham Hotspur being relegated is a grim one, but it suddenly becomes all the more unpalatable when considering where some of our first-team players could be playing next season. Joe Cole, a former Chelsea player, has run his rule over whom the Blues might snap up. After all, there will be no control over where players might resurface.

“With Spurs, you’re looking at the players who are not playing at the moment, because there aren’t many in the team at the moment that I’d pick. Micky van de Ven is probably the only one for me from the team that played at the weekend. I’d take James Maddison and [Mohammed] Kudus when they’re back fit. Archie Gray is one for the future.”

Back-page speculation is currently rife, with Micky van de Ven wanted by many. He’s a standout performer with a high market value. His likely destinations would include Barcelona (who have a strong interest as a ball-playing CB), Manchester United, Liverpool, or Real Madrid.

Mohammed Kudus has indeed been impressive in flashes, and Premier League suitors such as Manchester United and or Chelsea would be in the mix.

James Maddison possibly has a fair amount of catching up to do, in terms of attracting serious suitors, given his age and time out of the game.]

Archie Gray remains a standout prospect for any major side, and he, too, would benefit from some stability.

Spurs could lose £200m+ in player value/sales to balance books, relying heavily on youth and cheap reinforcements for a promotion push. Even without relegation, squad changes are expected, but the drop would accelerate a near-total rebuild.
