Jose Mourinho has said that he is delighted for the Tottenham supporters after the club broke their 17-year trophy drought, but the former Spurs boss did not miss the opportunity to aim a barb at Daniel Levy.

One cannot overstate the impact that winning the final has had on Tottenham Hotspur. It has created a sense of togetherness that the club has not seen for a long time, as long-suffering supporters finally have some glory to celebrate.

It also means that Spurs’ coffers could be boosted to the tune of £180m, owing to their participation in next season’s Champions League.

That has put the club in a strong position ahead of the transfer window, with reports over recent days indicating that Tottenham are ready to flex their muscle and show ambition this summer.

Jose Mourinho is delighted for Tottenham fans but not for Daniel Levy

The Fenerbahce head coach spoke about the huge impact of the result of the final on both of his former clubs and admitted that it is an especially big result for Ange Postecoglou and his players, given how long the Lilywhites have gone without silverware.

The 62-year-old also aimed a barb at Levy, suggesting that the extra revenue from Champions League qualification is what will delight the Tottenham chairman.

Mourinho told Sky Sports about the result of the Europa League final: “The impact is obvious, Tottenham play the Champions League and of course, for Mr Levy, the millions the Champions League gives, for him it’s the best news.

“For the fans, the players and Ange, it’s a title. Yes, the game was not amazing but they made history for Tottenham because Tottenham didn’t have a trophy for so many years.

“From what I read – just what I read – the impact on United of course is huge in the sense of how many years has United are not involved in any European competition. But at the same time, it looks like they are supporting Ruben, they are giving him time and conditions to go forward.”

Mourinho is particularly delighted for one Tottenham man

The special one confessed that his loyalties were split while watching the final, given the relationships he has with the two clubs.

However, he admitted that he was delighted to see Heung-min Son lift a trophy as captain after ten years of service for Tottenham.
