Micky van de Ven finished the 2025/26 season strongly by helping Tottenham preserve their Premier League status.
Tottenham Hotspur have already started working on transfer deals ahead of the official opening of the summer transfer window.
Spurs have officially announced the signing of Marcos Senesi after he departed from Bournemouth at the end of the season. He becomes the club’s second summer signing after Andy Robertson’s arrival on a free transfer from Liverpool was announced last week. The North Londoners are also in talks with Brighton for centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke, hoping to bolster their defensive unit further after already agreeing personal terms with the Dutchman.
The arrival of Roberto De Zerbi changed everything around the club as he quickly handed the squad renewed confidence and belief to preserve their Premier League status over a testing final sequence. Before Tottenham clinched top-flight safety, there was intense speculation surrounding Micky van de Ven’s future at the club. The Dutch star’s form improved right away under De Zerbi, whilst taking over the captaincy armband from the injured Cristian Romero. He played a key role in Spurs surviving the drop.
Jose Mourinho approves Real Madrid bid to sign Micky van de Ven
Real Madrid endured a trophyless 2025/26 campaign, sparking a change in management. President Florentino Perez had made rehiring Jose Mourinho as the head coach one of his re-election promises ahead of his victory in Sunday’s vote of club members. Now, the Spanish giants are poised to confirm the return of Mourinho, who left Santiago Bernabeu back in 2013.
The signings of Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries have been confirmed, as Real Madrid looks to rebuild their defence. Now, incoming boss Jose Mourinho has approved Florentino Perez’s decision to sign a Tottenham defender.
According to the Daily Mirror (h/t Football London), Real Madrid are ready to make a move for Micky van de Ven (Tottenham’s most valuable player), who could cost in excess of £75million. Mourinho wants to sign a centre-back as a priority in addition to Konate, who is set to join Los Blancos on a free transfer from Liverpool.
“Micky ticks all the boxes for Mourinho. Real are ready to go for him,” a source said.
Micky Van de Ven wants to stay at Tottenham
Van de Ven opened up on his private talks with De Zerbi earlier this month. The defender recalled how much De Zerbi instilled belief in him to perform when he wasn’t in peak form.
The Tottenham boss previously described the Netherlands international as the best left-footed centre-back in the Premier League, which is big praise from someone who has managed several top talents across Europe for more than 10 years. Earlier this week, the reliable Telegraph journalist Matt Law revealed that Van de Ven is unlikely to leave Spurs after their survival, as well as his liking of De Zerbi’s playing style.
This should be enough motivation for Tottenham to reject any potential bid from Madrid for Van de Ven. The defender’s desire to continue and belief in De Zerbi’s project bode very well, one that gives significant belief to the officials to keep and build the defence around him amid strong interest from European giants.
