Tottenham’s squad is currently lacking a bona fide superstar such as Harry Kane or Heung-min Son.
Spurs have often been able to boast an elite name, with Gareth Bale coming before the aforementioned duo, but the current crop under Thomas Frank is largely packed with potential superstars, like Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Xavi Simons.
However, Atletico Madrid No.19 Julian Alvarez disagrees with that sentiment, calling Cristian Romero the best defender in history.

As part of a TikTok for ESPN, the former Manchester City striker was asked to name the best players in history from certain categories, such as dribbling.
When it came down to selecting the greatest defender ever, Alvarez quickly replied: “Cuti Romero.”
Now, there was a bit of Argentinian bias at large here it seemed, as the South American also selected Emiliano Martinez as the greatest goalkeeper ever, which is certainly up for debate.
However, it just goes to show how highly regarded Romero is outside of Tottenham, where he is already rated by many.
Thomas Frank recently called Romero one of the best players on the planet at the moment, so Alvarez is not alone in considering the Tottenham No.17 an elite footballer.

TBR Football understand Atletico Madrid actually tried hard to sign Romero during the summer transfer window, but could not convince Spurs to part with the Argentina international.
The 27-year-old then ended up signing a new contract at Tottenham which runs until July 2029.
