Staggering Jurgen Klopp appointment claim made at Tottenham as Thomas Frank pressure grows

Thomas Frank is a man under growing pressure at Tottenham following Sunday’s terrible defeat at Nottingham Forest.

Tottenham were beaten 3-0 by Forest at the City Ground on a day in which Guglielmo Vicario produced a horror show and too many others failed to turn up.

Spurs’ midweek win over Slavia Prague and last week’s triumph over Brentford has relieved some of the pressure on Frank.

However, there are fresh calls for the Dane to be sacked as Tottenham have their lowest points tally at this stage of a season since 2008-09.

And former Spurs chairman and part-owner Alan Sugar has now called on the North London club to appoint Jurgen Klopp.

Alan Sugar calls on Joe Lewis to hire Jurgen Klopp

Emotions were running high in the aftermath of Spurs’ loss in the East Midlands, with Sugar perhaps speaking on behalf of most fans when calling for a change.

Frank is no stranger to sack talk at Tottenham, and it may well be that time is running out on the basis of the defeat to Forest.

Spurs are failing to win many games and are playing a style of football that supporters just cannot get behind.

Taking to X after the match, Lord Sugar posted: “With the massive fortune of the Lewis family, it would be a win-win situation if they hired Jurgen Klopp in January. Loads of money for players and a great manger.“

Frank was only appointed by Spurs in the summer, taking over from the sacked Ange Postecoglou on a three-year deal.

Jurgen Klopp has already spoken out on managing another Premier League club

Klopp stepped down as Liverpool manager in the summer of 2024, with the Reds going on to win the Premier League title in their first campaign under Arne Slot.

The German would of course be an instant upgrade on Frank, but there is absolutely not chance of it happening. That is what makes Sugar’s call pretty staggering.

Speaking upon leaving Liverpool, Klopp said: “What I know definitely – I will never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool, 100 per cent.

“That’s not possible. My love for this club, my respect for the people is too big. I couldn’t. I couldn’t for a second think about it. There’s no chance.“

Klopp has very much closed the door on ever managing a team other than Liverpool in English football.

While the former Borussia Dortmund manager is not an option, though, that is not to say there are not others out there the Lewis family could go for.

Right now it is becoming quite clear Frank is not the man for Spurs. The sooner he is given his marching orders, the better for all concerned.
