Tottenham Hotspur are pushing to sign Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford this summer, according to reports.
The north London side have reportedly earmarked the 23-year-old as a key target ahead of the upcoming transfer window as they look to replace Guglielmo Vicario.
Spurs are expected to part ways with the Italian shot-stopper after the season amid interest from Serie A clubs, and they have placed the signing of a new No. 1 at the top of their agenda.
Trafford only joined Manchester City from Burnley on a five-year deal, but he has made just 14 appearances this season, including 10 in cup competitions.
Tottenham Keen on James Trafford
According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham view Trafford as an ‘ideal’ candidate to replace Vicario as the club’s number one goalkeeper and believe the 23-year-old is a feasible target.
With Trafford unhappy with his limited involvement under Pep Guardiola, Manchester City are believed to have opened the door for his sale, and the player is also keen to move in order to secure regular minutes.
There are even suggestions Trafford would be open to the move even if Tottenham were relegated to the Championship, where the 'incredible' 23-year-old impressed with Burnley last season.
Trafford conceded just 16 goals in 45 league appearances, kept 29 clean sheets, and was named in the PFA Team of the Year for a second time in his career.
Tottenham are hoping to back new manager Roberto De Zerbi with multiple key signings in the summer market, provided the Lilywhites manage to avoid relegation this season.
The north London side are sitting just one point above the drop zone with seven games remaining and take on Sunderland away in De Zerbi’s first game in charge on Sunday.
Bart Verbruggen Eyed as Trafford Alternative
With a new goalkeeper among their summer priorities, Tottenham are also paying close attention to Brighton shot-stopper Bart Verbruggen.
According to reports, the north London side have included the Dutch international on their shortlist and could look to reunite De Zerbi with the 23-year-old.
Verbruggen played under De Zerbi at Brighton for one season following his arrival from Anderlecht in the summer of 2023 and made 27 appearances across all competitions in his first year.
Following De Zerbi’s departure after the 2023-24 campaign, the Dutch international became Brighton’s primary shot-stopper ahead of Jason Steele and is now nearing his 100th appearance for the Seagulls.
