Kōta Takai could be set to leave Tottenham as soon as he arrives in North London.

Daniel Levy has been criticised by fans for Spurs’ slow start to the transfer window.

Tottenham conceded the fifth-highest amount of goals in the Premier League last season, and Thomas Frank will be keen to change this next year.

As a result, defensive reinforcements are needed, especially with the potential sale of Cristian Romero to Atletico Madrid. Fortunately, it looks as though Tottenham are on the verge of announcing the arrival of a new centre-back, although he isn’t expected to be a part of the first-team squad next season.

Takai could be loaned out after arriving at Tottenham

Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign Takai for £5million, with his current club, Kawasaki Frontale, confirming that the defender will leave Japan to join an overseas club after a match with Kashima Antlers on Saturday (5 July).

MORE SPURS STORIES

It has been reported that the 20-year-old centre-back will be part of Frank’s first-team squad next season [The Standard].

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is sceptical about these reports and believes Takai could be loaned out next season.

“From what I’ve read, he’s got the ability to play on both sides,” Wenham said.

“That gives us another option. He seems like a player of high potential, quite tall, and has a lot of experience under his belt already at such a young age. I’m delighted with this signing.

“I know some reports are suggesting he will come straight into the first team and won’t go out on loan, but I’m not so sure. Being realistic, I think he will go on the pre-season tour, and Frank will have a look at him.

“However, we’ve got a lot of centre-backs already, and if he isn’t going to play regularly, I could see him potentially being loaned out.”

Frank has huge decisions awaiting him at Tottenham

One of the toughest decisions that awaits Frank is confirming his squad for next season.

Levy has built a strong team with big personalities, and with several rumoured signings yet to be added, the Dane has his work cut out for him.

This could be an opportunity for numerous youth players to prove themselves. Josh Keeley is just one player who could make Frank’s list after a standout season at Leyton Orient.

Furthermore, pre-season presents a chance for more senior players to convince the new gaffer. Manor Solomon is another player who will be hoping to earn a spot in the first team.

Therefore, Spurs’ upcoming pre-season tour could become a treat for fans across the world.
