Tottenham have made good use of their relationships with clubs in the English Football League to develop their youngsters.

Most recently, George Abbott gained experience on loan at League Two side Notts County and seems to now be at Championship level.

In the second half of last season, Will Lankshear spent time on loan with West Brom, though it didn’t work out for the striker in the Midlands.

Now, the 20-year-old has joined Oxford United on loan, and here, Tottenham News looks at three players who have gone on to do big stuff for Spurs after their EFL loans.

Dele Alli’s loan move to MK Dons

In 2015, Spurs signed Dele Alli from MK Dons.

Spurs would send him straight back to the then-League One outfit, and the rest is history for the 29-year-old, who went on to do big things for Tottenham and became worldly renowned as one of the best players in the Premier League.

MORE SPURS STORIES

His form in North London dipped towards the end of his Tottenham career in 2022, and he has since become a shadow of his former self.

Ryan Mason’s important EFL loans

It took a while for Ryan Mason to break into Tottenham’s first-team squad.

Following a loan move to Swindon, Mason’s future in North London looked in doubt, but an impressive preseason in America put him into Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.

The midfielder went on to be an important utility player under Pochettino over the next two seasons before departing for Hull City.

Just half a season into his Tigers career, he suffered a fractured skull following a collision with Chelsea’s Gary Cahill, meaning he had to retire.

Mason went on to coach at Spurs and is now preparing for his first full season in management with West Brom.

Harry Kane’s professional footballing breakthrough

It wouldn’t be a fitting list without mentioning Harry Kane.

The striker was immense in North London but had some struggles out on loan before breaking into the first team.

At the age of 20, Kane spent a dismal time out on loan with Norwich City, scoring just twice in 13 Championship games for the Yellows.

What came after that would never have been predicted by Tottenham supporters.

Kane went on to become the Lilywhites’ record goalscorer, scoring 280 goals before departing in 2023 for German giants Bayern Munich.

Spurs’ current batch of youngsters will be hoping to replicate the forward’s fine form in the years to come.
