Daniel Levy hasn’t always been the most popular figure among Tottenham fans, but that could be about to change amid an update regarding Dorgeles Nene.

The Lilywhites’ chairman is renowned for being tight with his money, and often reluctant to arm managers with the necessary resources to achieve the lofty aspirations that he has for the club.

However, he now appears ready to release the shackles on Spurs’ spending this summer, as he looks to provide Thomas Frank with the best possible chance of turning the club’s fortunes around for good.

Levy is working on big-money deals for the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo in a bid to strengthen the squad, and the N17 outfit are also turning their attention across Europe to try and add to their ranks.

Tottenham and Arsenal in race to sign Dorgeles Nene

Despite Tottenham’s recent Europa League success, Levy has once again clarified his desire for Spurs to be competing for Premier League and Champions League titles in the future.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It’s good to see that the Spurs chief has his sights set on major improvement, but that can’t be achieved without the necessary spending and decision-making on player recruitment.

The North London side have been linked with numerous players since sacking Ange Postecoglou, with the latest being Red Bull Salzburg winger Dorgeles Nene.

Tottenham are one of a whole host of sides who are lining up a move for the Malian youngster, according to Africa Foot (24 June).

The likes of PSG, Bayer Leverkusen and Galatasaray are all keeping tabs on the 22-year-old, with bitter rivals Arsenal the latest to join the chase.

If Levy could seal the signing of Nene, it would be a huge statement of intent for Spurs to beat several top European sides to a promising young talent.

Nene is only going to improve as he grows older, and Tottenham could really send a message out across European football if they could win the race for his signature.

Dorgeles came of age last season

Son Heung-min’s Spurs future is up in the air this summer, meaning the club will surely be looking at potential alternatives for their veteran star.

The likes of Mbeumo and Semenyo would certainly be more glamorous targets than Nene, but there can be no doubt about the fact that the youngster is ready for a big move after the season he produced last time out.

The 21-cap international had a real ‘coming of age’ season for Salzburg, as he notched 15 goals and four assists in all competitions. That represents that most productive campaign of his career so far, and is surely a marker that he is ready to go on to bigger and better things.

With Champions League experience already under his belt and a fine record on the international stage, Nene could well become the next African prospect to make a name for himself across global football.
