Arne Slot says Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker could make his return to the squad for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur.
The Brazilian is expected to rejoin training today after missing Liverpool’s trip to Galatasaray in the Champions League, during which Giorgi Mamardashvili deputised in goal ahead of the weekend clash with Tottenham.
Slot also shared a positive update on Federico Chiesa, who was absent from the Reds’ 1-0 defeat in Istanbul in midweek due to illness.
The Italy international, who has made just five starts in all competitions so far this season, is also anticipated to be back in training today.
Slot, as quoted by Liverpool Echo, offered a positive update on Alisson on Friday morning, saying the Brazilian could make his return against Tottenham on Sunday:
“He felt something when he passed the ball in one of his muscles, but after we checked it, it was minor, so it didn't take long, but games follow up so fast he had to miss Gala, but hopefully he is ready to play Sunday. If not, then definitely Gala on Wednesday.”
Slot also revealed that Chiesa ‘feels better’ after missing the trip to Galatasaray in midweek and will make his return to training today:
“Chiesa, I expect, feels better and is able to train with us today.”
Alisson missed over a month of action earlier in the season due to a hamstring issue, while Chiesa has struggled for regular minutes under Slot.
The Italy international has made just one Premier League start in 2025/26 so far, in the 2-1 win over bottom-placed Wolves in December.
Liverpool will be looking to return to winning ways on Sunday after their 2-1 defeat to Wolves in their last league game.
Slot also provided an update on Alexander Isak’s injury ahead of the Tottenham clash, revealing that the Sweden international is still recovering from his lower leg problem sustained in December:
“With the rehab team still not with the team yet.”
The setback is expected to keep Isak, who joined in a £125m British-record deal from Newcastle last summer, out until after this month’s international break.
Hugo Ekitike has mostly deputised for the injured Swede but has struggled for form in recent games, scoring just three times in his last nine league appearances.
Liverpool are sixth in the Premier League ahead of Sunday’s visit from Tottenham, level on points with fifth-placed Chelsea.
