Luca Williams-Barnett should not be expected to follow in Mikey Moore’s footsteps at Tottenham Hotspur.

The 17-year-old is one of the most highly rated youngsters at Hotspur Way, and he could well find himself out on loan next season.

He needs to test himself in senior football, which is much harder and more physical than the youth level he currently operates at.

Moore has already done that, finding his feet with Rangers in Scottish football, with a heap of expectations on his shoulders.

Tottenham would be best sending him out to get first-team experience, away from the pressure that comes in N17.

What was said about Williams-Barnett’s Tottenham future?

Moore is currently excelling away from Tottenham, but John Wenham believes Williams-Barnett is not ready for that level.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “If you compare their seasons, what Luca’s doing this year compared to what Mikey’s doing in the same year, which was last year for him, Mikey had made 16 first-team appearances for Tottenham, including Premier League starts, Europa League starts, being on the bench in the Europa League final, etc, there is a difference of where they are right now for the same age.

“It’d be a first loan for him, Mikey was incredibly brave to go on that loan to Rangers and the high expectations they’ve got there.

“For Luca, probably a loan within England, maybe League One to start with and sort of take it from there.

“And obviously, if he finds that League One is too easy or going too well, then he can have a break clause to recall him and maybe put him to the Championship for the second half of that season.

Why League One is perfect for Williams-Barnett

Wenham’s suggestion is probably the correct answer for Williams-Barnett, as he does not have the senior experience that Moore did when he left on loan.

He only has one senior appearance to his name, a three-minute cameo in the Carabao Cup, and would likely not be able to handle the pressure of a big loan move.

League One is the perfect level to test him ability against senior professionals, who will give him a tough test.
