Xavi Simons being out for the season is a major blow for Spurs, though it could be the only way that Williams-Barnett gets a look in.
The teenager has six goals and five assists in the Premier League 1 in just 10 appearances, showcasing his ability to make a difference in the final third.
On top of that, he has created 24 chances, with seven deemed as big chances, which highlights his creative playstyle.
Simons’ absence could afford him the chance to truly break through under De Zerbi, but even then, there will be questions as to what comes next for him in North London.
Williams-Barnett would benefit from Tottenham exit
And not a permanent one.
Unless Spurs suffer relegation, there is next to no chance that Williams-Barnett will be handed the minutes needed next season to continue his development.
A loan move to the EFL would benefit him and Tottenham, who still have plenty of high hopes for his future in North London.
Given his performances at youth level, he certainly wouldn’t be short of suitors.
