The Sweden international has been in the headlines in recent weeks as his future has been the subject of plenty of speculation

Lucas Bergvall has made it clear what he needs next season after Tottenham made it clear that the young midfielder is not for sale.

football.london reported last week that the 20-year-old's representatives had informed Spurs of his desire to move on this summer in order to get regular football and in his favoured number eight role. With Tottenham spending £185million this week on bringing Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali to the club from West Ham and Newcastle respectively, Bergvall's chances of regular minutes in a season without European football have been hit further.

The Swede has made 78 appearances already for Spurs since arriving from Djurgarden two years ago but last season he saw his starts and minutes dwindle under Thomas Frank and then Roberto De Zerbi. With interest from plenty of big clubs across the Premier League and Europe, Bergvall's camp expressed his wish to move on for regular minutes elsewhere to continue his development, with a loan move ruled out.

However, Tottenham are making it clear that the talented young midfielder is not for sale and De Zerbi is believed to have a place for him in his plans this season.

Bergvall has been at the World Cup with Sweden, becoming his country's youngest player to ever play at the competition. He started for Graham Potter's side as they exited the competition with a 3-0 defeat to France in the round of 32 on Tuesday night.

After the game he was asked about his future at Tottenham by the Swedish media outlet Aftonbladet and he would only say: "I want continuous matches in my position. That is the only goal. We’ll see what happens in the future. I’ve only been focused on the World Cup until now."

Bergvall has otherwise swerved questions about Spurs during the World Cup in recent weeks and when asked about whether he wants to remain in the Premier League he did so again on Tuesday.

"As I said, my focus has been on the World Cup. We’ll deal with whatever comes next. I don’t know – we’ll see," he said.

The midfielder did speak about the defeat to France though and was asked whether he feels he's now broken into the Sweden team as a starter going forward.

"It’s difficult to say straight afterwards. You have mixed feelings, but it felt like both I and the team were switched on from the start. We were in control and created some chances," said Bergvall. "But France were the better team and deserved to go through."
