Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall has been ruled out of Sweden’s upcoming international match, and he will now head back to London without playing a single minute during the international break.
While some of Tottenham Hotspur’s stars have been involved in World Cup qualifiers during the international break, others have been called up for friendlies.
One of those is Lucas Bergvall, who would have been relishing the chance to take his club form into the international set-up and deliver a statement performance for Sweden.
However, Bergvall missed Saturday’s friendly against Luxembourg due to illness, and the midfielder has now been handed yet another blow.
Lucas Bergvall will return to Tottenham
It has now been reported by Fotbollskanalen that the 19-year-old has not been passed fit for Sweden’s clash against Northern Ireland in Stockholm on Tuesday.
There was initially some hope that Bergvall would be fit to play Northern Ireland, which is why the teenager was allowed to skip the training camp in Marbella last week and head straight to Sweden.
However, the youngster has not recovered in time from his illness and will now be allowed to return to Hotspur Way ahead of schedule.

Will this be a cause for concern for Ange Posteocoglou?
Bergvall has been Tottenham’s most consistent performer over recent months, which is why this development might be a cause for concern for the Lilywhites ahead of their trip to Stamford Bridge next week.
However, given that it is illness rather than any muscle injury, he should have more than enough time to recover fully for the London derby, and perhaps more importantly, the first leg against Eintracht Frankfurt.
