Description

Tottenham Hotspur fans might have another reason to be hopeful ahead of their clash with Chelsea, as Dejan Kulusevski has once again dropped a cryptic hint about his fitness.

Tottenham Hotspur have received a few boosts on the injury front heading into their meeting with Chelsea on Thursday.

Richarlison was spotted back in training in Spurs’ latest official footage, a welcome sight given his absence. Lucas Bergvall had been a doubt due to illness that ruled him out of Sweden’s international fixtures, was also seen in training, suggesting he’s in contention for selection.

Dejan Kulusevski, however, was nowhere to be seen in the released Tottenham training clips. Yet, despite that, he has once again hinted at a possible return with an Instagram story.

Dejan Kulusevski’s latest Instagram teases a potential Chelsea return

Kulusevski has stuck to his cryptic theme on Instagram, this time sharing a picture of himself on his balcony—crucially, without a protective boot on his foot.

This image is eerily similar to the one he posted before Tottenham’s first-leg clash against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League, where Kulusevski all but confirmed his foot injury.

The key difference? No protective boot this time, hinting that he might just be fit enough for Thursday.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Could Dejan Kulusevski make a comeback against Chelsea?

The Swedish winger hasn’t played for Spurs or his national team in over two weeks, with his foot injury ruling him out of action.

Interestingly, Kulusevski also teased a potential return just yesterday ahead of the Chelsea clash, posting an image with the caption: “Coming to a show near u. DK tha truth 2.0.”

Ange Postecoglou mentioned some injured players would return after the international break, and with Kulusevski’s recent social media activity, the signs are certainly pointing in that direction.

Whether he’ll be fit enough to be part of the squad remains to be seen, but his latest post suggests he’s edging closer to a return.

Daniel Levy issues Spurs spending warning after club announce financial losses - The Spurs Web
Description

Daniel Levy has issued a huge spending warning to Tottenham fans about the club’s ability to continue investing in the first-team squad after the North Londoners released their financial results for the year ending June 2024.

Tottenham have posted cumulative operating losses of £232m over the last three financial years, and their latest financial results are not too encouraging either.

Through their official website, Tottenham have released the detailed numbers for the year ending June 2024, and it was yet another year where the club registered a loss.

Spurs confirmed that total revenues have decreased by 4% to £528.2m as a result of a reduction in match receipts (due to fewer matches) and the lack of UEFA prize money due to not being involved in Europe last season.

However, Tottenham’s TV and Media revenues rose marginally from £148.1m to £165.9m while commercial revenues grew from £227.7 to £255.2m.

Daniel Levy issues warning about Tottenham’s spending

Overall, the figures confirm that Tottenham Hotspur posted a loss of £26.2m across 2023-24. While that is considerably less than the £86.8m loss the club posted in the previous financial year, it does mean that the Lilywhites have now posted losses for four years in a row.

Levy pointed to these numbers and warned that the club’s transfer spending over the last few years is not sustainable. He made it clear that Tottenham will not make any decisions that will jeopardise the long-term financial stability of the club.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Reacting to the latest Tottenham figures, Daniel Levy said: “As we announce our financial results for the year to 30 June 2024, we currently find ourselves in 14th position in the Premier League, navigating what has been a highly challenging season on the pitch. We are, however, in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League.

“Winning this competition would see welcome silverware and mean qualification for the UEFA Champions League. We must do everything we can to support the team in these final key stages. Since opening our new stadium in April 2019, we have invested over £700 million net in player acquisitions.

“Recruitment remains a key focus, and we must ensure that we make smart purchases within our financial means. I often read calls for us to spend more, given that we are ranked as the ninth richest club in the world. However, a closer examination of today’s financial figures reveals that such spending must be sustainable in the long term and within our operating revenues.

“Our capacity to generate recurring revenues determines our spending power. We cannot spend what we do not have, and we will not compromise the financial stability of this club – indeed, our off-pitch revenues have significantly supplemented the lower football revenues this year, a testament to our diversified income strategy.

“I want to thank everyone who supports us through good times and bad. We are resilient and passionate about our Club. We shall aim to finish this season as strongly as we can and continue to build for success on the pitch.”

Spurs are in much better financial health than many rivals

While some of these figures do make for worrying reading, Tottenham are in a much healthier position financially than some of their Premier League rivals, who have allowed their wage bills and costs to get out of control.

Theoretically, Spurs should thus be in a relatively strong position going into the summer. However, based on Daniel Levy’s statement, it seems like Tottenham are unwilling to take a gamble and jeopardise their long-term financial health.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur have identified five centre-backs as potential options to replace Cristian Romero and have already decided who their top choice is out of those five.

The speculation over Romero’s future continues to intensify as we edge closer to the summer transfer window, with the centre-back having just two years left on his contract at Spurs.

Over recent days, it has been reported that Tottenham are ready to make a U-turn and cash in on Romero as the likes of Atletico Madrid step up their interest in the player.

A new update has now suggested that Spurs have already started making plans to replace their vice-captain as the summer window draws closer.

Tottenham’s five-man shortlist to replace Cristian Romero

Fichajes now say that the centre-back’s time at Tottenham Hotspur appears to be coming to an end this summer as interest in his services continues to intensify.

The report says that the likes of Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are among those plotting a summer move for Romero, with Tottenham potentially fearing losing the 26-year-old.

As a result, the club’s recruitment department have now shortlisted five names to replace the World Cup winner if he does depart.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The outlet reveals that Jonathan Tah, Dean Huijsen, Marc Guehi, Milan Skriniar and Jarrad Branthwaite are currently on Tottenham’s shortlist to replace Romero.

Who is Spurs’ top choice to replace Romero?

Fichajes say that among these five names, Guehi has been identified as the ‘most suitable option’ to take Cristian Romero’s place in the Tottenham squad.

The 24-year-old was already a target for Spurs in January, and it is explained that the Lilywhites believe that the England international would be able to slot seamlessly into their backline, given the experience that he now possesses.

It is suggested that should a deal for the Palace man not be possible, Huijsen might be the next alternative Tottenham consider, with the North London club being fans of the Bournemouth man’s imposing physique and ability in the air.

Description

Daniel Levy has reportedly put a huge price tag on Cristian Romero after a number of clubs expressed an interest in signing the Tottenham centre-back this summer.

Those who have followed Spurs Web’s coverage would be aware that the Tottenham vice-captain’s future has been the subject of plenty of speculation over recent weeks.

The centre-back has just over two years left on his contract, and according to some sources, Tottenham have reportedly told Romero that he will be sold if he does not sign a new contract.

It has been reported over recent days that while Spurs previously asked for £60m for Romero, they are prepared to lower their valuation this summer as the likes of Atletico Madrid and AC Milan circle over the player.

Football.London have now become the latest outlet to confirm that several clubs are watching Romero’s situation closely ahead of the summer window, including Real Madrid and their rivals, Atletico.

However, Daniel Levy has allegedly told Los Blancos and other interested clubs that they would have to cough up ‘well over £100m’ if they want to sign the 26-year-old.

The report claims that the Tottenham chairman is keen to retain the World Cup winner ahead of next season, despite the growing interest in his services.

The publication adds that as things stand, Atletico are hoping to finalise a £75m deal for the Argentina international.

What are Romero’s plans ahead of the summer?

This update from Football.London comes just a few days after a big claim was made about the centre-back’s transfer stance ahead of the summer.

Amidst an approach from Atletico, it was revealed that Romero is very much open to leaving Spurs at the end of the season, particularly if the Lilywhites fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Hugo Lloris names six Tottenham teammates he can ‘only speak highly of’ - The Spurs Web
Description

Amidst speculation linking Mauricio Pochettino with a shock return to Tottenham Hotspur, Hugo Lloris has made an admission about working with the Argentine and the relationship he has forged with his former manager.

Nearly six years on from his sacking, Spurs fans still hold Pochettino in very high regard, with the 53-year-old managing to forge a real connection with the Tottenham faithful during his five and a half years in North London.

Just last week, Pochettino admitted that he still has unfinished business at Tottenham, which has fuelled speculation over a possible return to N17 this summer.

It has been reported over recent days that Pochettino is protected by a release clause of $25m (£19.3m), which means that Daniel Levy will have to break the bank to appoint him before his contract with the United States ends in the summer of 2026.

Hugo Lloris makes Mauricio Pochettino admission

Lloris was a central figure in the Pochettino revolution at Tottenham, with the Argentine being the man who handed the Frenchman the captain’s armband.

The goalkeeper has now admitted that his former Spurs boss was more than just a coach, revealing that the pair remain on good terms.

Lloris told La Nacion (as relayed by Sport Witness) “Mauricio Pochettino, who is more than a coach. We’re still in touch with him; we’re friends. We have a very nice relationship.”

MORE SPURS STORIES

Lloris and Pochettino now both find themselves plying their trade in America, and the LA Galaxy number one is confident that the former Tottenham manager will make the US a force for their home World Cup next year.

He added: “It’s crazy that we’re now in America. I’m playing for the MLS and he’s the manager of the national team. I’m very happy to see him in this challenge and I’m very proud of him… It’s a great responsibility to be the manager of the team that will host the next World Cup.

“It’s a lot of pressure, but I know Mauricio and his staff, and I have no doubt that he’ll be ready to compete in the World Cup and will put in a good performance. Despite the great expectations it generates, I know Mauricio will do a great job.”

Hugo Lloris speaks about the Argentines he met at Tottenham

With La Nacion being an Argentine publication, they unsurprisingly asked the former Tottenham goalkeeper about the various players from the country he played with at Spurs.

The goalkeeper admitted that he forged strong relationships with a number of Argentines during his 11 and a half years in North London.

Lloris remarked: “Honestly, I have a very good connection with my Argentine teammates. When I moved to Tottenham, I met a lot of Argentinians.

“Also with goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, Juan Foyth, with ‘Coco’ Lamela too, who is one of my best friends in football. And of course, with Gio Lo Celso and ‘Cuti’ Romero. I can only speak highly of all of them.

“They’re very good people. I’m very grateful to have met them. They all have very nice personalities, they greatly respect their country, Argentina, and they are great human beings. They have energy and a positive spirit and are very dedicated to soccer.”

Tottenham keen on signing a midfielder they first wanted back in 2018

Tottenham keen on signing a midfielder they first wanted back in 2018 - The Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur could be eyeing a major attacking reinforcement this summer, with fresh reports linking them with one of the Premier League’s most expensive players.

Tottenham Hotspur are not exactly lacking in wide options, with Heung-min Son, Wilson Odobert, and Brennan Johnson already in their ranks.

There is also the possibility of Mathys Tel extending his stay at Tottenham, which would provide another attacking option.

However, a few injuries could easily leave them stretched, and with the club looking to challenge on multiple fronts next season, the need for reinforcements is clear.

Tyler Dibling has been identified as a top target for Spurs, but recent reports now suggest Spurs are also showing interest in Jack Grealish.

The Manchester City winger has emerged as a serious option for the Lilywhites, with speculation growing about his future at the Etihad.

Tottenham Hotspur among clubs interested in Jack Grealish

According to sources at GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham are one of the clubs keeping a close eye on Grealish’s situation at Man City.

MORE SPURS STORIES

While the Premier League champions are not necessarily looking to offload him, they are reportedly open to offers, with potential suitors expected to come forward in the summer.

Manchester City’s stance on a potential sale is still uncertain, but it is believed that any move would depend on the valuation they place on the England international.

The club, however, are willing to listen to offers, though it remains to be seen if they would be willing to let him go at a reasonable price.

Pep Guardiola has certainly given Grealish opportunities this season, but the winger has struggled to hold down a consistent starting role. More often than not, he has found himself on the bench, a stark contrast to the key role he played in City’s treble-winning campaign.

Tottenham were first linked with Grealish during his Aston Villa days all the way back in 2018, with that infamous bid of £3 million plus Josh Onomah.

Wage structure and competition could complicate move

If Spurs are serious about signing Grealish, the financial aspect of the deal will be a significant hurdle.

The 29-year-old, soon to be 30, is on a staggering £300,000 per week at Manchester City, a figure that would make him Spurs’ highest earner by some margin.

Given that Tottenham’s current wage structure sees top stars like Heung-min Son earning around £200,000 per week, meeting Grealish’s demands would require major adjustments.

Even if a deal is feasible from a transfer fee perspective, Spurs would need to find a way to negotiate wages that align with their financial model. Realistically, Grealish would have to take a significant pay cut if he were to move to North London.

Tottenham are not the only club showing interest, with AC Milan also said to be monitoring Grealish’s situation.

However, any move from the Italian giants would be contingent on them offloading players first, making their pursuit far from straightforward.

Combined Tottenham and Chelsea XI – No room for Pedro Porro or Pedro Neto

Combined Tottenham and Chelsea XI – No room for Pedro Porro or Pedro Neto - The Spurs Web
Description

Thursday night’s London derby sees Tottenham and Chelsea face off once again. But what if we took the best available players from both sides to create a combined XI? Here’s our take on who makes the cut.

This combined Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea XI does not take into consideration players who are unavailable for Thursday night’s game.

Combined XI: Tottenham and Chelsea

Goalkeeper – Guglielmo Vicario: This was probably the easiest pick. Vicario has been a revelation for Spurs, offering composure and consistency, which Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen simply haven’t matched.

Right-back – Djed Spence: Spence has had an impressive turnaround this season. He’s handled top wingers well, contributed going forward, and—despite spending much of the season on the left—deserves the right-back spot here.

Centre-back – Micky van de Ven: Chelsea may be ahead in the table, but Tottenham have the better individual defenders. Van de Ven’s pace and reading of the game make him an automatic selection. He’s been a rock for Tottenham when fit.

Centre-back – Cristian Romero: Romero is another easy pick. Given Chelsea’s current centre-back situation, he walks into their starting XI. He starts for World Cup winners Argentina—enough said.

Left-back – Marc Cucurella: Cucurella gets the nod on the left. He’s been Chelsea’s most reliable defender this season. His ability to overlap, underlap, and slot into midfield while remaining defensively solid makes him a standout.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Defensive midfielder – Moises Caicedo: Tottenham’s midfield has been chaotic this season, with neither Yves Bissouma nor Rodrigo Bentancur delivering consistent performances. Caicedo, while not entirely spectacular, has provided more stability and gets the nod in this XI.

Centre-midfielder – James Maddison: Maddison brings creativity and attacking flair, which is exactly what this midfield needs. He hasn’t played every game for Tottenham, but his ability to unlock defences is invaluable.

Centre-midfielder – Cole Palmer: Yes, this midfield might be light defensively, but with Palmer and Maddison feeding the attack, any striker would thrive. Palmer was initially a doubt for this game, but after training with the squad six days before the fixture, he makes the cut.

Left-midfielder – Heung-min Son: A Premier League legend. Son remains one of Spurs’ biggest threats and has even recently moved up the all-time scoring charts after he bagged his 127th PL goal, surpassing Chelsea’s Hasselbaink in the process. Chelsea simply don’t have a wide player who can match his consistency and goal threat.

Striker – Dominic Solanke: If you’re playing Maddison and Palmer, you need a hard-working forward to press and hold up play. Solanke offers exactly that, with decent finishing to boot. The Tottenham man gets in ahead of Chelsea’s misfiring strikers.

Predicted Tottenham XI to face Chelsea in the Premier League – Wilson Odobert starts

Description

Spurs are set to visit Stamford Bridge for a Premier League London derby on Thursday. Let’s take a look at our predicted Tottenham XI to face Chelsea.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur return to Premier League action this week with a massive London derby against Chelsea.

Spurs haven’t won at Stamford Bridge since 2018, and given their inconsistent form this season, the Blues will fancy their chances once again.

Tottenham have already fallen to Chelsea once this campaign, a chaotic 4-3 loss in the reverse fixture. With pressure mounting on Postecoglou, securing a win here is crucial.

Let’s take a look at our predicted Tottenham XI to take on the Blues.

Predicted Tottenham XI to face Chelsea in the Premier League

Goalkeeper – Guglielmo Vicario: Since returning from injury in February, Vicario has been ever-present between the sticks. No reason for that to change now. The Italian keeps his spot in goal for our predicted Tottenham XI.

Right-back – Pedro Porro: Porro barely featured for Spain during the international break, meaning he comes into this game fresh. He should slot straight in at right-back.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Centre-back – Cristian Romero: Romero has been making headlines this week amid reports linking Romero to Atletico Madrid. Despite that, he played 180 minutes in Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers and returned unscathed. He should be handed a start once more this Thursday.

Centre-back – Micky van de Ven: No international duty for Van de Ven this time, which means extra time with Spurs’ medical staff. The Dutchman should be fully fit and ready to feature at Stamford Bridge.

Left-back – Djed Spence: Spence has spoken openly about Tottenham’s need to win a trophy. While the Europa League remains a possibility, Spurs need a result here first. We expect him to take up the left-back role.

Pivot midfielder – Lucas Bergvall – With Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur struggling for form, Bergvall deserves a starting spot. This is the kind of game where his energy and technical ability could be key in midfield. He returns from illness just in time to make the predicted Tottenham XI.

Central midfielder – Pape Matar Sarr – Chelsea’s midfield, with Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, will bring plenty of intensity. Spurs need a runner in there, and Sarr fits the bill perfectly. Expect him to start.

Central midfielder – James Maddison – No England call-up for Maddison this time around, and that will have stung. But if there’s one thing we know about him, it’s that he thrives on proving a point. A big performance against Chelsea would be the perfect response.

Left midfielder – Heung-min Son: Some Spurs fans have debated whether Son should start out wide or be rested ahead of Frankfurt, but we think he plays here. With 11 goals and 11 assists this season, Postecoglou will be counting on his captain’s contributions.

Striker – Dominic Solanke – Solanke is still searching for his first goal since returning from injury, but his all-round game brings plenty to the table. He should lead the line against Chelsea.

Right midfielder – Wilson Odobert – Odobert has been in fine form, delivering a brace against AZ Alkmaar and two assists for France U21s against England. That kind of momentum is hard to ignore—he keeps his place on the left wing.

Top five centre-backs Tottenham should look at to replace Cristian Romero

Top five centre-backs Tottenham should look at to replace Cristian Romero - The Spurs Web
Description

Tottenham Hotspur could be forced into the transfer market for a new centre-back this summer, especially if Cristian Romero decides to move on. With reports suggesting he is stalling on a new contract, Spurs might need to act fast to secure a replacement. Here are five potential options.

Tottenham Hotspur are bracing themselves for a crucial summer transfer window, particularly in the defensive department.

Cristian Romero’s future at Tottenham remains uncertain, with reports indicating that he has yet to commit to a new deal.

The Argentine centre-back is said to be eyeing Champions League football next season, a factor that could influence his decision to leave.

Spurs, however, are keen to keep hold of their defensive stalwart, and Tottenham have reportedly tabled a lucrative contract offer to persuade Romero to stay.

But with negotiations dragging on, other clubs have started circling. Atletico Madrid have expressed their interest in Romero, reportedly making contact with his representatives as they look to bolster their backline.

If the worst comes to pass and Romero departs, Tottenham will need to act swiftly in the market. A high-calibre replacement would be required to maintain their defensive solidity. Here are five centre-backs who could be ideal candidates for the role.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Marc Guehi: Premier League proven option for Spurs

Marc Guehi is an obvious candidate to replace Cristian Romero and was already on Tottenham’s radar during the winter transfer window.

Spurs made a £65m approach for Marc Guehi, but their bid was turned down as Palace felt there wasn’t enough time to find a replacement.

With 125 Premier League appearances under his belt and 31 clean sheets to his name, Guehi offers proven top-flight experience.

Jarrad Branthwaite: A long-term investment for Tottenham

Jarrad Branthwaite is another option Spurs have been linked with extensively ahead of the summer. At just 22, the Everton defender represents a long-term investment, but signing him won’t be straightforward.

Manchester United, Manchester City, and even Real Madrid are all reportedly interested in Branthwaite, which could drive up his price significantly.

Another concern is his injury record. Branthwaite has already missed 146 days of action due to a groin problem. Pairing him with Micky van de Ven, another injury-prone defender, could be a gamble.

However, if Tottenham can secure him, they’d be getting a player with immense potential who could be a defensive mainstay for years to come.

Edmond Tapsoba: A cost-effective alternative

Edmond Tapsoba remains a viable option for Spurs, particularly given his reported availability for around £46 million.

The Bayer Leverkusen centre-back was previously on Tottenham’s radar before they opted for Micky van de Ven two summers ago. Should Romero leave, Tottenham could reignite their interest in Tapsoba.

However, recent reports suggest that he is unlikely to move, with his teammates Jonathan Tah and Piero Hincapie more likely to be sold by Leverkusen. If he does become available, though, Spurs should strongly consider making a move.

Piero Hincapie: A versatile defensive asset

That brings us to Hincapie, who is one of three Leverkusen defenders rumoured to be available this summer.

The Ecuadorian is an intriguing option, primarily due to his versatility. He can operate as a centre-back or slot in as an inverted full-back—a role Pep Guardiola often deploys Manuel Akanji and John Stones in at Manchester City.

Tottenham rarely set up that way under Ange Postecoglou, but if they were to secure Hincapie, it could give them tactical flexibility. His ability to transition between roles could add a new dimension to Spurs’ defensive structure.

Ilya Zabarnyi: The perfect tactical fit for Tottenham

Ilya Zabarnyi is my preferred option to replace Romero. The reason is simple: Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth side play a very similar brand of football to Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham.

If Postecoglou remains in charge next season, Zabarnyi would slot into the system seamlessly, making for a smooth transition.

On the other hand, if Spurs were to move on from Postecoglou and appoint Iraola, Zabarnyi would still be an ideal fit. He knows the manager’s tactics well, meaning the transition period would be minimal. Either way, securing the Ukrainian could be a smart move for Tottenham.

Honourable mention: Jonathan Tah

One name worth mentioning is Jonathan Tah, who could be a smart free-agent signing. Bringing him in would save Tottenham money that could be spent elsewhere.

Tah, a centre-back with experience at the highest level, fits the bill perfectly. Like Romero, he knows what it takes to win trophies.

The Leverkusen man played a crucial role in Xabi Alonso’s side last season when they came close to securing a historic treble, eventually lifting both the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal.
