Luka Vuskovic is due to return to Tottenham Hotspur next summer, but the defender has said something which has raised uncertainty about his future.

Luka Vuskovic could have remained at Tottenham Hotspur this season, but he chose to be loaned abroad in a bid for regular first-team minutes.

This decision appears to have paid off for the 18-year-old, who has made eight Bundesliga appearances for Hamburg SV.

Spurs have recently been handed a boost in defence, as Radu Dragusin played in a behind closed doors friendly. However, many of the club’s supporters want to see Vuskovic brought into the Tottenham first-team squad next summer.

Tottenham’s Luka Vuskovic is unsure where his future lies

Vuskovic stated last month that he would like to extend his stay at Hamburg and play a second season, so he could play alongside his brother Mario.

The 23-year-old, who also plays as a centre-back, is currently serving a doping ban which will continue for another year.

Luka Vuskovic said in his press conference ahead of Croatia’s World Cup qualifier against the Faroe Islands (as relayed by Novi List): “I’m happy with everything at HSV. My grades are good, even above expectations.

“My teammates are great, everyone supports me and I have no bad words or criticism. I just need to keep going.

“Tottenham? I hear from them, they follow me. They are a good club when it comes to developing young players. I don’t know when I will be back.”

Vuskovic needs Premier League experience

From Xavi Simons at Spurs to Florian Wirtz at Liverpool, it is clear that many of the Bundeliga’s players struggle to adapt quickly to the Premier League.

Vuskovic will undoubtedly benefit from a year in Germany, but it would be better for him to play in England next season, so he can acquaint himself with the intensity of the top flight.

Tottenham have two first choice centre-backs whose places in the first-team are unlikely to be challenged. However, if Vuskovic builds a good run of form at Hamburg, he might be given a chance by Thomas Frank next season.
