Luka Vuskovic has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur offered him the option to stay at the club, but explained why he chose to go out on loan this season.

Vuskovic’s stock has risen drastically since Spurs signed him two years ago, with the teenager impressing everyone with his maturity and composure during his loan spell in Belgium with Westerlo last term.

He carried that confidence into pre-season with Tottenham and impressed in the friendlies, leading some Spurs fans to wonder if he was already ready to make the step up.

However, in the end, Vuskvoic completed a season-long loan move to Hamburg, and the youngster has now shed light on why he made the decision.

Luka Vuskovic reveals he rejected Tottenham’s offer to stay

The 18-year-old will look to aid the newly-promoted Bundesliga side in their efforts to stay up, and he will share the dressing room with his older brother, Marco, who plays for the German club.

Vuskovic has now confessed that Tottenham offered him a chance to stay and be a bit-part player this season, but revealed that he was keen to play regularly to continue his development.

The Spurs man told Germanijak about his switch to the north German club: “They (Tottenham) offered me the option to stay, to play in case of injury or cup games. But I wanted consistent playing time. They have Romero and Van de Ven, two of the best centre-backs in the world right now.

“I believe in myself, but it’s really hard to play next to them. I’ve faced them and realised I need to work harder. A lot of work and a bit of luck, and I’ll return.”

Vuskovic impressed his Spurs teammates and staff

Vuskovic has been praised by some of his senior Tottenham teammates, with the teenager clearly making an impression in pre-season.

The fact that Frank offered him a chance to stay and play cup games is further evidence that the coaching staff at Spurs see him as first-team material.
