Two underachieving giants of English football will collide in an all or nothing contest for silverware as Manchester United face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.

The Red Devils are currently experiencing their worst season of the Premier League era. The 20-time champions of England are languishing 16th after 37 matches with just 39 points across the campaign.

United have recorded a staggering 18 defeats in the league - which is four more than United managed in Alex Ferguson’s final three seasons in the Old Trafford dugout put together. They are also on course to finish in their lowest league position since relegation in 1973/74 and have regressed under Ruben Amorim since his arrival mid-season.

Meanwhile, Spurs are in 17th position with 38 points, which makes them the worst performing side outside the relegation places. The Lillywhites have suffered a club-record 20 defeats in the league and are heading for their worst league finish since relegation in 1977.

Both clubs can attribute some of their problems to injuries this season, but the pair have both managed to put their woes behind them with a string of excellent performances and results in Europe. One of these teams has the chance to end their dark season on a high with a trophy and Champions League qualification. While the other will end the season on a low note. Ahead of a highly-anticipated all–English final we take a look at the injury news from both teams.

Man Utd injury news

Diogo Dalot - doubt: Portuguese international Dalot faces a race against time to get fit for the Europa League final. He’s been out with a calf problem for a number of weeks and has missed the last four league matches.

Lenny Yoro - doubt: United have struggled with a series of injuries at the heart of their defence this term and it’s been a tricky campaign for Frenchman Yoro due to various injury issues. He’s currently nursing an ankle injury which is similar to the one he had at the start of the season, leaving him with a nervous race against time to gain fitness.

Matthijs de Ligt - doubt: Netherlands international de Ligt is a doubt for United’s showpiece clash with Spurs. He’s nursing a knee injury which is not thought to be a major issue but it was enough to rule him out for defeats to West Ham and Chelsea in recent weeks.

Jonny Evans - doubt: Defensive veteran Jonny Evans has only played six league matches this season and is currently nursing a muscular injury. It’s unlikely he’ll play if others are fit and available but he could still travel with the matchday squad.

Joshua Zirkzee - out: Former Bologna ace Joshua Zirkzee is yet to acclimatise to the demands of English football but has shown flashes of his best form in Europe. However, he’s been on the sidelines since suffering a thigh injury against Newcastle United and is not expected to be seen until pre-season.

Lisandro Martinez - out: Arguably the most costly injury of Ruben Amorim’s time at United so far. Argentine international and World Cup winner Lisandro Martinez is one of the best players at the club but has been missing since January with a serious ACL injury. He’s certain to miss the remainder of the season and is unlikely to feature again until the start of 2026.

Tottenham Hotspur injury news

Dejan Kulusevski - out: Swedish international Dejan Kulusevski misses out with a knee injury which is likely to need surgery. He’ll miss most of pre-season and is unlikely to return until August. A huge blow.

Radu Dragusin - out: The Romanian defender sustained a serious ACL injury which required an operation. He’s on the mend now but won’t be back in action until around December.

Dane Scarlett - out: Youngster Dane Scarlett has been nursing a groin problem for a large chunk of the year and is expected to have an operation. He’ll be targeting a return for pre-season.

James Maddison - out: England playmaker James Maddison has struggled with various different injuries throughout the campaign. The latest is a knee issue which rules him out until pre-season. It’s a devastating blow to the Lillywhites due to the former Leicester star’s creativity and goal threat.

Timo Werner - out: The former Chelsea forward, who won the Champions League in 2021, has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, marking the end of a frustrating season for the German.

Lucas Bergvall - out: Highly-rated youngster Lucas Bergvall misses out with an ankle problem in a big blow at the heart of the midfield.
