Tottenham are still awaiting their first goal of the Premier League season as they prepare to take on unbeaten Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening.
Roberto De Zerbi's side took a small step forward with a 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest, but they are four points worse off than the Toffees, who shook off their transfer deadline-day debacle with last Sunday's 2-2 draw at home to Manchester United.

After splashing the cash in the summer transfer window, Tottenham would have been hoping for a far better early return on their investment.
Spurs were clearly ill-prepared for their season opener against Brentford, who thumped them 3-0, while they were then stunned by Newcastle at home.
Roberto De Zerbi's men secured their first point of the season in a goalless draw at Nottingham Forest last Saturday, but they are still searching for their first win and goal of the new league campaign.
The draw at Forest was achieved despite Spurs failing to post a shot on target, and they were thankful for a lengthy but ultimately correct VAR call which ruled out a second-half effort from Neco Williams.
It was far from perfect but Spurs' performance at the City Ground was at least a step in the right direction.
They commanded almost 60 per cent of possession in the East Midlands and the midfield partnership of Rodrigo Bentancur and Sandro Tonali is starting to gel and look more effective.
And there were also moments of encouragement from attackers Omar Marmoush, Savio and Mohamed Kudus, who are getting sharper with every outing.
Tottenham's new-look attack is a long way away from reaching its full potential but it may be effective enough to inflict a first defeat of the season on Everton.
The unbeaten Toffees have put five points on the board and their fans celebrated last Sunday's 2-2 draw at home to Manchester United with understandable enthusiasm given the disappointment and anger at a disastrous end to the transfer window.
However, Everton's fans are still far from happy with the club's ownership and it would take only a few poor results for them to voice their discontent.
Everton were fortunate to snatch a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth a fortnight ago and they needed a couple of stunning strikes to salvage a draw against United, who were the better side at the Hill Dickinson.
To this point David Moyes has been satisfied with the players' efforts, but his threadbare squad features just one senior centre-forward, Thierno Barry, and his starting eleven is clearly not as strong after Iliman Ndiaye's deadline-day switch to Manchester City.
Ndiaye contributed six goals and three assists last season and his departure is a major blow for a club who finished 13th in 2025-26, only ten points above the relegation zone.
Everton players and fans closed ranks and made life difficult for United, but there are 35 more games to go and the lack of depth and balance within their squad may soon tell.
In contrast, Spurs remain a side with plenty of potential to grow and they look ready to claim their first league victory of the campaign.

Among the several Spurs players on an upward trajectory is former Manchester City striker Marmoush.
The Egyptian star, 27, went close with a decent effort against Nottingham Forest and his first goal for the club may not be too far away.
