Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert start as France held by Portugal in UEFA Under-21 opener

Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel both started as France opened their UEFA Under-21 Championship with a 0-0 draw against Portugal in Slovakia on Wednesday evening.

Lining up as the wide attackers either side of Rennes' Matthis Abline in a 4-3-3, both players had efforts on goal in the Group C encounter, with Mathys forcing a save from Samuel Soares in the second half. Mathys was substituted on 77 minutes, Wilson completed the full match. The pair now prepare to face Georgia on Saturday - Georgia beat Poland 2-1 in Group C's other match this evening.

Archie Gray is in the England squad that kick-off their tournament against Czechia in Group B on Thursday (8pm UK).

The top two teams from four groups of four qualify for the quarter-finals.
