“I’ve always loved Spurs, like, since the first day I stepped in here,” he told us just after putting pen to paper. “I always enjoyed being here. I love the club. I love the fans. I love the stadium. So, I love everything here, and I think I’ve also developed really well here.
“I think also with the new gaffer coming in, you see the direction the club wants to go in and I'm really excited at what that’s going to be and I just want to be part of it.”
Regarded as one of the best central defenders in Europe, Micky has consistently excelled since joining us from VfL Wolfsburg in August, 2023.
A key player in our UEFA Europa League triumph in 2025 – including a spectacular clearance off the line in the final against Manchester United – Micky also showed leadership qualities when he captained the team in the final, crucial six matches of last season under Roberto De Zerbi.
“It’s a special day,” he continued. “I won't say it's a different feeling, because it feels like home, but the feelings I have is obviously the trust from the club, the trust from the gaffer, and the trust I have in the club is something really special and it's something that gives me a special feeling knowing I can stay for many more years.”
Still only 25, Micky is approaching the 100-appearance milestone for us, currently on 96. He’s also a mainstay of the Netherlands international team, starting three of four matches at the World Cup.
What did the future look like for him? “Hopefully, successful years, healthy years, I think that's most important,” he said. “And with a lot of joy, hopefully for the fans as well
“I always will work 100% for this club. I care about every single thing. I love the fans and especially how you saw them stand behind us for the difficult times we had last season. Hopefully we can build on that and make some beautiful memories together.”
