A Welsh football club owner is rubbing shoulders with Wrexham, Arsenal and Tottenham with his own unique Amazon Prime Video documentary.
Mike Harris, owner of The New Saints (TNS) since 1997, stars in ‘Road to Europe - The Mike Harris Story’, a fly-on-the-wall documentary that follows the Welshman, who has taken the club to the edge of European football.
Mike is not your typical football club owner, though, as the documentary shows him boozing with fans on the coach to an away day, recounting the moment he collapsed drunk in front of Michel Platini at a Champions League draw and chanting “You’re not getting sacked in the morning” to his manager.
Speaking about ‘Road to Europe - The Mike Harris Story’, Mike said, “This documentary is about more than just football - it’s about belief, ambition, and doing things differently. When we started this journey, people didn’t necessarily see what we saw, but we believed that with the right mindset, hard work, and a commitment to raising standards every single day, we could take this club further than anyone expected. It tells the story of how a club like us. can grow, evolve and compete on a much bigger stage - not just domestically, but in Europe. There have been challenges along the way, but that’s what makes the journey meaningful. For us, it’s about constantly improving, representing the club and the community in the right way, and building something that people can be proud of. At the same time, football should be enjoyed. We’ve always tried to keep that balance, working hard and striving for success, but also having a laugh along the way. I think that comes through in the film. It’s honest, it’s real, and it shows the people behind the club as much as the results on the pitch.”
It is not just Mike’s story told in ‘Road to Europe - The Mike Harris Story’ as we hear from TNS manager Craig Harrison and the club’s former star defender Jimmy Aggrey.
Both men bravely open up about past struggles. A career-ending injury at Crystal Palace led Craig into a deep depression, while Aggrey claims TNS saved his life after struggling with racial abuse from Chelsea youth team coaches.
