The teenager reckons his Rangers-mad family have quickly taught him about what life is like in Glasgow
Mikey Moore says his Rangers-daft family have helped to instil the mentality he needs to thrive at Ibrox. The on-loan Spurs winger has developed into a key player for Danny Rohl’s side.
He believes - even at just 18-years-old - he can be a leader in the Rangers dressing-room. And Moore says the demands put on him by his own relatives have ensured he knows what it means to represent the club.
The English youngster is loving life in Glasgow and hasn’t ruled out returning to Gers next season. For now, he’s determined to get Rohl’s team up the Premiership table and challenging for honours.
And if he does, certain family members will be delighted. Ahead of Saturday’s clash with in-form Motherwell at Ibrox, Moore said: “I’ve got a few connections. My girlfriend’s whole family are Rangers fans.
“And my family have always liked Rangers as a club too. I understand what it means now. I get messages off my girlfriend’s dad all the time, battering me if we lose and if we win he’s loving me.
“I understand what it means to be here and I’ve had that support from people in my family. You need that support network when you’re going through some hard times. They’ve been a massive help to me.
“My own family are Millwall fans, so they have a bit of a link to Rangers. My uncle has been messaging me every week saying: ‘C’mon, batter them today’.
“I won’t read out some of the messages! But since I’ve been here, they’ve built that love again for the club.
“My mum is suddenly the biggest Rangers fan you’ve ever seen, with Rangers tops and all sorts.
“I love it here.”
Moore has been one of Gers’ most productive attacking players since Rohl arrived as gaffer.
He believes he can lead by example at Ibrox by influencing games and inspiring them to victories.
Which is something Rangers desperately need after losing to Hearts on Sunday which leaves them 12 points off the top of the table.
The teenager said: “In the last few weeks, I’ve felt more responsibility in myself to go and help the team get forward.
“Sometimes there are games where we’re going to be under pressure.
“But I’ve got that belief in myself to be the person to drive us up the pitch.
“That’s what it’s about. If you have three or four, or as many people in the team with that mentality of: ‘I’m going to help the team today’ - the more we get that the more games we’ll win and points we’ll pick up.
“We need to all have that mentality.
“We have so much ability in this group but a lot of it at this club is about mentality.
“We must have that over the next few weeks to get as many points as possible - and put ourselves back in the position we were last weekend.
“We have to just keep closing that gap.”
Moore will go back to London in the summer for talks on his future with Spurs boss Thomas Frank.
But after striking up an excellent relationship with Rohl at Ibrox - allied to his family links to Rangers - he says he could be open to a return.
Moore said: “I need to see what happens for the rest of this season.
“It’s a hard one because a lot of it is down to the people back home.
“In the summer, I’ll go home and have talks with Tottenham and my agent, as well as my family.
“Obviously, I love playing at this club. I’m going to do everything I can to make the most of the next five months.
“I love playing here but we’ll see what happens, who I talk to and what they’re saying.
“Maybe I’ll be back, I don’t know.”
