Almost half wanted Son Heung-min farewell as defenders are most popular picks for future - Fans vote on Tottenham Hotspur squad

Published 09/08/2025 at 08:08 GMT+1

Ahead of another highly anticipated Premier League season, TNT Sports have been asking fans what they think of their squads. It is the turn of the Tottenham faithful, who endured a rollercoaster 2024/25 campaign. The trophy drought was ended with a Europa League win, but that was accompanied by a 17th-place Premier League finish. So, which players do fans want to keep and who do they want to sell?

It has already been a summer of major change for Tottenham Hotspur, and the new Premier League season is yet to get underway.

Following the momentous UEFA Europa League triumph, club chairman Daniel Levy made the difficult decision to relieve manager Ange Postecoglou of his duties in favour of Brentford boss Thomas Frank.

Postecoglou was then followed out the exit door by Spurs captain and legend Son Heung-min, who brought his 10-year stay in north London to an end by moving to LA Galaxy for a fee of £19.5 million.

Rodri suffers another injury set-back: How many games will he miss?

Son joined Spurs in August 2015 and scored 173 goals in 454 appearances, but it was perhaps the right time to take on a new challenge, certainly if our TNT Sports ‘keep or sell’ poll is anything to go by.

Only 54% of votes were in favour of Son remaining at the club for next season, a surprising return for someone of such status.

Spurs have brought in reinforcements this summer. Mohammed Kudus joined from West Ham, while permanent deals for last season's loan players Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso have also been struck.

And if fans are looking for some more positivity on the back of a turbulent campaign in which they lifted silverware but finished 17th in the Premier League, the voting highlighted how highly rated their defenders are.

Success is built on the bedrock of a solid defence and centre-back Micky van de Ven (89%), right-back Pedro Porro (87%) and left-back Destiny Udogie (86%) occupy the top three spots in the table.

With 85% voting to keep him at the club, Christian Romero is also right up there among the fan favourites.

There are actually a core group of players all over the pitch that the vast majority want to keep, perhaps a sign of how strong the starting line-up could be if fully fit.

At the other end of the scale, left-wingers Bryan Gil (27%) and Manor Solomon (31%) received the fewest votes, with both back after loan spells last season.

Most notably, with only 37% voting to keep him, more people than not would rather see Richarlison moved on this summer. There has been plenty of speculation linking the Brazilian with an exit, but it has so far failed to materialise.

Elsewhere, with only seven players below him, veteran full-back Ben Davies (50%) is another big name to find himself quite far down the pecking order.
