Tottenham Hotspur played out a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United in a preseason friendly in South Korea, and manager Thomas Frank has admitted that it could be the last outing for Son Heung-min.

The South Korean International has confirmed that he wants to leave Tottenham, and there are rumours that he is heading to the MLS. Thomas Frank has now pretty much confirmed that the player is unlikely to play for Tottenham ever again.

End of the road for Son

He said (via Football London): “I think it’s very likely Sonny’s last game because it’s very close. The reaction was instinctive from my players. I think that speaks volumes about him. It’s not just the talent he has but the way he has carried himself over the years.

“I think he’s seen as one of the game’s great Premier League players. I’ve never had the pleasure of working with him or meeting him and talking to him but I’m sure he would be the same as he is on the pitch.”

Son Heung-min has been an asset

He has been an exceptional servant for the club since joining them, and he has established himself as a club legend. However, he is entering the twilight stages of his career, and this could be the right time for him to move on. He showed signs of decline last season, and he has his fair share of injury problems as well. Tottenham will do well to secure a quality replacement for him now.

Son is undoubtedly the best Asian player to have played in the Premier League, and it will be interesting to see if he can make his mark in the MLS now. There is no doubt that he is a top-class player, and he could make a defining impact in the United States.

Tottenham have signed Mohammed Kudus earlier this summer, and they need another dynamic attacker to replace the South Korean. He is capable of operating anywhere across the front three, and they need a similar player to fill the void left by him.
