Tottenham Hotspur have now been installed as the favourites to land a Brazilian defender after Barcelona pulled out of the race for the player.

Right-back is one area where Tottenham Hotspur are very well stocked, with Thomas Frank able to call on the services of Pedro Porro, Djed Spence and Archie Gray.

That is why a few Spurs fans would have raised their eyebrows when it emerged that Tottenham are eyeing a move for Monaco right-back Vanderson.

It was claimed earlier this week that the Lilywhites are locked in a transfer battle with Barcelona for Vanderson, but a major development has given the Premier League side an upper hand in the transfer race.

Barcelona have pulled out of the race for Vanderson

A report in Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness) titled: ‘Tottenham go for Vanderson’ has suggested that the race for the Brazilian has now swung firmly in Spurs’ favour.

The outlet says that Barca initially wanted to sign a right-back when Jules Kounde was injured last season and had their eye on the Monaco man.

However, given how well Eric Garcia performed in that role last season, Hansi Flick’s men have decided against signing a right-back, and have abandoned their pursuit of Vanderson.

The report claims that the 23-year-old was keen on a move to Camp Nou, but now looks destined for the Premier League, with Spurs and Liverpool registering an interest in the player.

Monaco expect Tottenham to meet Vanderson asking price

However, Sport point out that the Reds are no longer expected to pursue the Ligue 1 star after completing a deal to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.

As a result, Tottenham have moved to the front of the queue to land Vanderson, with the Lilywhites ‘best placed’ to complete the deal.

It is asserted that Monaco want €35m (£30m) for the right-back and they are ‘convinced that Spurs will meet their request’.
