A new angle has emerged of Felix Nmecha’s tackle on James Maddison, which appears to show that the Tottenham midfielder is right to feel aggrieved.

The clash on Monday night ended in controversial circumstances as the referee did not point to the spot when Maddison appeared to have been brought down in the box by Leeds star Felix Nmecha.

The replays shown during the broadcast were not conclusive regarding whether Nmecha got a touch on the ball, and the Spurs players were furious when the VAR did not ask referee Jarred Gillett to rewacth the incident.

Maddison has claimed that he was the one who got the touch on the ball rather than Nmecha, accusing the officials of being petrified to make a decision in the era of VAR.

Reports suggest that the 29-year-old Spurs star may be punished by the FA for his choice of words about the officiating.

However, a new video doing the rounds on social media appears to prove that Maddison was right about the tackle from the Leeds forward.

The video shows the England international getting a touch on the ball with the outside of the foot, with Nmecha appearing to miss the ball and catch the Spurs midfielder.

Should the VAR have spent more time reviewing the Maddison penalty incident?

It is unclear if this particular angle was available for VAR, but the video assistant did not spend more than 20 seconds reviewing the incident.

Given that the officials took nearly five minutes to review West Ham’s disallowed equaliser against Arsenal, perhaps they should have taken more time to get this decision right as well.

Spurs fans will be hoping that they do not end up looking back on this decision as the one that cost them a place in next season’s Premier League.
