Yoane Wissa is reportedly keen on a reunion with former manager Thomas Frank at Tottenham Hotspur.

Newcastle United have expressed an interest in signing the 28-year-old to assist Alexander Isak’s workload next season. A proven Premier League goalscorer, Wissa bagged 19 in the top flight last year to fill the gap left by Ivan Toney.

Despite the speculation, NewcastleWorld would be surprised if the Magpies signed Wissa. His age - 29 in September - does not fit the current profile for incomings at St James’ Park.

Wissa is also likely to miss a chunk of the campaign due to his AFCON commitments with DR Congo. Noises out of Brentford also suggest they would not be willing to lose Bryan Mbeumo and Wissa in the same window.

Newcastle United’s wave of rejection

Newcastle have already faced one Brentford snub after putting the feelers out for Mbeumo earlier in the window. Manchester United have haggled for the Cameroonian international all window and launched a fresh £70million bid in midweek.

Joao Pedro was the next transfer target to turn down the Magpies as he completed a big-money move to Chelsea. To add insult to injury, his alternative, Hugo Ekitike, also favoured Liverpool despite Newcastle holding talks with Eintracht Frankfurt - and having a bid rejected.

TalkSPORT now claim Wissa’s preferred destination is Tottenham, who have recently appointed former Brentford boss Frank. Nottingham Forest remain keen after having a £40million bid rejected last week.

Stuart Pearce rates Yoane Wissa

Former Toon defender Stuart Pearce believes several top clubs will be looking at Wissa. He said: “There’s no doubt Manchester United and Arsenal would have been looking at Yoane Wissa. When you look at the season he had last year, he was magnificent.

“The goals he’s delivered while playing with width and playing down the middle as well. That’s a major asset for any football club and the fact that Nottingham Forest have moved the odd player on recently, along with other sides in the division, you would think that by the time the season starts, he might well have moved on (from Brentford).”

Alexander Isak comparisons

Ex-Brentford boss Frank compared Wissa to Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland last summer. He said: “He has been very good. How many teams have their number nine that has scored 15 goals?

"Maybe Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland? That is exceptional for him. A big credit. He has been very good and having Wissa and Bryan on 15 goals and more I think we are the only club with that."
