Radu Dragusin has revealed how his decision to move to Tottenham Hotspur came about and the major challenge he has encountered since his move to the Premier League.

The Romanian spent nearly a full year on the sidelines after suffering an ACL injury in January of last year, eventually making his return to the pitch at Selhurst Park in December.

The 24-year-old’s return has proved crucial for Spurs, particularly given the injuries and suspensions they have had at the back, with Dragusin getting some starts under his belt over recent weeks.

The centre-back is now preparing for Romania’s World Cup playoffs and he has spoken to the media back in his home country about the challenges he has encountered at Spurs.

The centre-back confessed that he has found the step up in quality from the Serie A to the English top-flight to be substantial.

Dragusin revealed that the speed and intensity of football in the Premier League takes some time to get used to, following the tactical nature of football in Italy.

Speaking to Gazeta Sporturilor, the Tottenham man said: “If the jump from Romania to Italy was big, I think the one from Italy to England was even bigger. Here, things are less tactical and much more dynamic, much more intense.

“The speed of the game is different. The players are more physically developed. I consider the Premier League to be the strongest league in the world. The most intense, with the best players and the biggest audience.”

Dragusin’s heart was set on Spurs as soon as they expressed interest

The defender is no stranger to the pressures associated with playing for a big club, with Dragusin having spent three years at Juventus as a youngster.

It was his performances at Genoa that convinced Tottenham to make a move for him back in January of 2024, and the Romanian admitted that his mind was made up as soon as the Lilywhites made an approach.

Dragusin added: “From the moment Tottenham came in, for me, there was no other team. You have to think about the decision you make at that moment, but for me, in my heart, the decision was already made.”
