Ferencvaros manager Robbie Keane would be interested in becoming the next permanent Tottenham Hotspur manager after Thomas Frank was sacked, according to Sky Sports News.

The north London club sacked the Dane after just eight months in charge this week, following the club's 2-1 defeat to Newcastle which left them in 16th in the Premier League, just five points adrift of the relegation zone.

The search is now on for his replacement, and while the club are open to an interim manager coming in until the end of the season, they're also looking at potential permanent options, and Keane wants to be in the conversation.

Robbie Keane Wants Tottenham Job Permanently

Keane, who has won two league titles as a manager with both Maccabi Tel-Aviv and Ferencvaros, has emerged as a name who is being considered for the role, having enjoyed a stellar career as a player with the club.

The Irishman scored 122 goals in 306 appearances for Spurs over two spells at the club and is considered a club legend by many, and some at Spurs believe he could be the perfect man to fill in until the end of the season, in a similar fashion to Michael Carrick at Manchester United.

However, Sky Sports News have revealed that while Keane would be open to joining the club as their next manager, he would only be keen to do so as the permanent boss, rather than taking an interim role.

"Robbie Keane would be open to returning to Tottenham, but we also understand that he wouldn't be looking for an interim role," Michael Bridge revealed.

"It's also worth saying that there is no indication yet from Tottenham Hotspur that they would be interested in Robbie Keane, but Keane has done a brilliant job abroad with the two roles he's had so far."

Keane Not Right for Permanent Role Yet

Every fan base would love to have a manager in place who understands the club, and Keane would certainly fit that bill at Spurs. But considering the position Tottenham are in right now, and where they want to be, it's too soon for him.

Keane has never managed in a top league, and while he has experience managing in the Europa League, it would be a huge jump up to take over at Tottenham permanently to help them build.

A top manager with lots of experience is needed to get the club back to where they feel it belongs, and while Keane could make a convincing case for himself if he performed in an interim role first, it's no surprise he doesn't want to leave a job where he's currently successful for a long shot.
