Tottenham Hotspur could have been set to scupper a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in the coming weeks of the transfer window, according to reports - with the north London outfit making a 'very good personal offer' to the former Chelsea academy starlet to make the switch across the River Thames.
Guehi has been in incredible form over the past 18 months, taking England to the EURO 2024 final after forming a strong relationship with John Stones, as well as making Palace history by becoming the first club captain to lift a major trophy after winning the FA Cup trophy in May. And that form has seen the 'superstar' linked with a move elsewhere, including Tottenham.
Report: Tottenham Made 'Very Good Offer' for Guehi
The report by TEAMtalk states that despite Guehi making up his mind to join Liverpool, there was interest from Tottenham in recent days as they looked to incredibly hijack a deal for the Palace star against the odds.
Arne Slot has been given an ultimatum in his effort to sign the Eagles skipper, who is out of contract at the end of next season and thus the subject of interest from various clubs in the Premier League, thanks in no small part to his rising value since his move to Selhurst Park.
And, despite Liverpool monitoring Guehi throughout the summer, Spurs have recently come into the equation - with journalist Paul O'Keefe now revealing that their offer to the defender in terms of personal salary is 'very good'.
Tottenham memorably had a bid turned down for Guehi in the middle of last season, and Thomas Frank's side are still interested in the 25-year-old despite their change in management. O'Keefe said, via Last Word on Spurs:
“The word from within Palace, my Palace contact, is saying that it’s Liverpool or bust. But he did say that Spurs’ offer to him on personal terms was ‘very, very, very good’."
Interestingly, Tottenham's proposed move for Palace teammate Eberechi Eze could have huge implications over Guehi's potential away from Selhurst Park to Anfield, with the Eagles unwilling to lose both of their in-demand England internationals in one window.
If Spurs can get a deal over the line for Eze, that could scupper the Reds unless they decide to pay an extortionate fee for the starting Three Lions centre-back, despite moving away from a move for Manchester City winger Savinho.
GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Marc Guehi has 23 caps for England, although with no goals to show just yet.
Guehi has 133 Premier League appearances, winning a further 24 in other competitions - and that has seen him become one of the top-flight's most dependable players at the age of just 25.
