Nottingham Forest fans need to know these three things about Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou has been appointed as Nottingham Forest manager.

Postecoglou won the Europa League at Tottenham in his second season at the club but was then sacked by Daniel Levy.

Levy has now departed Tottenham, and it seems that Postecoglou is set to have the last laugh after Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked by Forest.

Some Forest supporters do not want Postecoglou after his chaotic Tottenham reign, but they should give him a chance.

Ange Postecoglou is more adaptable than he is given credit

It has often been said that Postecoglou refused to abandon his possession-based attacking philosophy in his two-year stint at Tottenham.

MORE SPURS STORIES

It served him well in his first season at Spurs, as he led the Lilywhites to a fifth-place finish in his first season at Hotspur Way.

However, a brutal injury crisis that was exacerbated by his training methods and a stubborn refusal to change his approach despite not having the players was ultimately his downfall, according to many observers.

He won the club’s first trophy in 17 years, but a 17th-place finish in the Premier League, with 22 losses, was simply not good enough.

If he is to succeed in his new role, he needs to be able to adapt to different situations, something which he did show in the later rounds of the Europa League.

He shifted from a constantly high defensive line to utilising a double pivot in midfield, which increased his side’s defensive solidity.

He proved that he is willing to compromise in the Europa League final against Manchester United, when his side recorded their lowest possession in a win under the Australian.

Nottingham Forest fans will fall in love with Ange Postecoglou

Most Forest fans will be gutted that Espirito Santo has gone, but they will fall in love with Postecoglou quickly.

He is relatable and down to earth, but also not afraid to speak his mind, which should fit in well with Evangelos Marinakis, who often speaks out about perceived grievances against his club.

He is arguably the most entertaining character in football right now, down to his witty press conference answers to his charisma and self-confidence.

Some of his most iconic moments came off the pitch, with his claim that he always wins a trophy in his second season line and the infamous “season three is better than season two” quote during the Europa League trophy parade.

He turned to the Spurs fans and cupped his ears when Pape Sarr scored against Chelsea, only for the goal to be ruled out for a foul in the build-up, showing the kind of character that he is.

Ange Postecoglou will make Nottingham Forest the most entertaining team in the Premier League

It is never boring on the pitch either, with Postecoglou in the dugout.

His high-risk, high-reward style of football leads to high-scoring matches. In one week in December 2024, his side beat Southampton 5-0, then beat Manchester United 4-3 before losing 6-3 to Liverpool.

There is no doubt that with Postecoglou in charge, Forest will be fun to watch, as he has openly stated his desire to entertain supporters in the past.

Given the combination of the Australian, Marinakis and the squad at Forest’s disposal, it should be a great mix, and will only serve to make the top-flight even better.
