Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on a third signing of the summer after making an offer that the player can't refuse, according to reports in Italy.
The Lilywhites have already agreed deals to sign Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on a free transfer from Liverpool and Bournemouth, respectively, after Roberto De Zerbi kept the north London club in the Premier League with a final day win over Everton.
Now the Italian is desperate to strengthen his squad in the summer to ensure they are not in that position again next season, and the club are reportedly closing in on a third deal before the window has even opened.
Tottenham Close to Signing Vergara
According to Napoli Network, Tottenham Hotspur are close to signing Napoli midfielder Antonio Vergara to bolster their midfield.
Vergara, who has been described as 'dangerous', made 19 appearances for the Serie A giants this season, scoring three goals and registering two assists, as the club earned qualification to the Champions League once again.
De Zerbi is understood to have been a big fan of the 23-year-old, having watched him regularly over the last year, and has now decided to make his move to bring him to Tottenham.
Spurs are reportedly ready to table a contract that hands the Italian a significant wage increase, and it's reported that the offer is one that the player considers to be 'unmissable'. Napoli are open to selling the player for the right offer, and a deal now looks to be on the cards.
Tottenham are expected to see several top stars on the move this summer after missing out on European football, and De Zerbi is now ready to bring his own players in to implement his style.
Tottenham Need Midfield Reinforcements
The midfield is always a key area in the Premier League for the top clubs, and Tottenham know that they will need big reinforcements if they want to compete next season.
Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr, and Joao Palhinha are the current options, but the Portugal international could well be on the move if his loan deal isn't made permanent, and that would open a spot for Vergara to come in.
If De Zerbi is keen to bring him in, then Spurs need to back him as best as they can, and trust him to do what they are paying him for.
