Jamie O’Hara has made a strong assertion about a Liverpool star who could challenge Dejan Kulusevski for a starting spot at Tottenham.

Kulusevski became comfortable at Tottenham once Ange Postecoglou deployed the Swede in midfield.

However, with the Australian now gone, it is unclear what Thomas Frank has planned for Kulusevski.

Bringing in the likes of Bryan Mbeumo or Eberechi Eze would increase competition for the 25-year-old, and O’Hara has now suggested another player who Spurs could sign to challenge Kulusevski.

O’Hara wants Tottenham to sign Harvey Elliott

Harvey Elliott made headlines when he netted twice against the Netherlands’ Under-21s (25 June) to send England’s Under-21s to the UEFA European Under-21 Championship final as the Young Lions edge closer to retaining their crown.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The attacking midfielder’s future at Liverpool has never looked more uncertain with the arrival of Florian Wirtz this summer. After playing just 360 minutes for the Reds in the Premier League last season, Elliott could be ready to take the next step.

Following Elliott’s spectacular performance for England’s Under-21s, O’Hara stated on talkSPORT (25 June) that he would love to see the 22-year-old at Spurs and likened him to Kulusevski.

“I would have him at Tottenham, 100 per cent,” O’Hara said.

“He [Elliott] would play on the right and compete with Brennan Johnson. Kulusevski is quite a similar player to him, but I think [Harvey] Elliott has something about him. He can play as a number ten, and he can play in different areas. He can play in midfield. I like [Harvey] Elliott. There’s a lot to like.”

Tottenham are creating a problem

Elliott is not the only attacking midfielder that Kulusevski may need to worry about. Tottenham have also been linked to Xavi Simons and Eze this summer.

Squad depth becomes paramount when participating in the UEFA Champions League. However, things could become difficult with James Maddison, Kulusevski and potentially one or more of Simons, Eze and Elliott all fighting for a starting spot.

Indeed, four of these five players are indisputable starters for their clubs and could see the situation at Spurs as a downgrade. This could prevent one of these potential signings from joining the club or could become a headache for Frank if they do sign.

Therefore, Tottenham will need to decide on one to become their main target for the summer.
