Amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding Ange Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham, Brentford manager Thomas Frank has reportedly expressed interest in the Spurs managerial role following positive discussions with the club, according to Football Insider.
Despite Postecoglou leading Tottenham to their first major trophy in 17 years by securing the UEFA Europa League title, a disappointing 17th-place finish in the Premier League has cast doubt over his tenure.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is said to be considering several candidates to potentially replace Postecoglou.
Tottenham want Brentford boss Thomas Frank
Among these, Thomas Frank has emerged as a leading contender.
The Danish manager, who has a release clause of approximately £9 million in his Brentford contract, has impressed the Spurs hierarchy due to his playing style at Brentford and how he has managed to perform well within limited resources.
While it may come as a surprise to many as why Spurs are looking to offload Postecoglou, the reason behind him being possibly shown the exit door at the club is their poor performance and consistency in the Premier League.
Finishing just above the relegation zone for a club as big as Tottenham was highly surprising.
Although Postecoglou suggested that since the start of the year they were completely focusing on the Europa League, it is still not good enough for Spurs to finish 17th in the league.
Frank’s football style would suit Spurs
As the club prepares for the upcoming season and the challenges of Champions League football, the decision on who will lead Tottenham forward remains a critical one.
With positive talks already held, Frank’s potential appointment could give Spurs the chance to get a manager who likes to play attacking football and someone who is also good enough to improve the levels of the players like he has shown with Bryan Mbuemo and Yoane Wissa.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola praised the Brentford manager by calling him ‘one of the best’.
