Tottenham Hotspur are already planning on ways to strengthen their squad for next season if they avoid relegation to ensure they're not in the same situation next year.

The north London club currently sit just one point above the relegation zone in the Premier League with seven games remaining, following a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest before the international break, which has seen interim boss Igor Tudor's job come into serious question.

But despite that wary position in the league table, Spurs are keeping an eye on potential market situations to help strengthen the squad and make up for expected exits during the summer transfer window, including this Premier League star.

Tottenham Eyeing Lutsharel Geertruida

Spurs are anticipating big interest in Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven this summer as they look set to go without European football, and that means the defence has been earmarked for bolstering during the window.

That has led to the club turning their attention to Sunderland loanee Lutsharel Geertruida, who could be available for around £20m from RB Leipzig after impressing in England this season, according to TEAMtalk.

Capable of playing at right-back, centre-back and even in defensive midfield, the Netherlands international has been a big part of the Black Cats' campaign which has seen them avoid an immediate return to the Championship, and his performances have caught the attention of some other clubs in the division.

Sunderland retain an option to make the deal permanent, but it also needs sign-off from the player, and while he is happy on Wearside, he is also open to listening to interest from other clubs, including Spurs.

Tottenham are keeping close tabs on the 25-year-old, who has been described as 'extraordinary' and compared to Sergio Ramos, and could make a move to bring him to north London if they stay up and key players depart.

Geertruida to Replace Romero or Van de Ven?

Tottenham are expected to oversee mass change this summer, including a new manager, and bringing in players with experience who can adapt quickly could be key to a good season.

Geertruida can offer that, while first-team football could be the difference in convincing him to move or stay at Sunderland, or move to another club.

His versatility will undoubtedly be a big reason why clubs are taking an interest in him too, and GIVEMESPORT asked ChatGPT how he could fit into the Spurs squad if he joined, and this was its response:
